Need your help.

"George A Greene Memorial"

Today is the anniversary of my Dad's home going. I know where he is and he is in such a better place right now And I know he is dancing with my Jesus.

Mr Charles Myers told me this would be OK. So, I am asking you for help. I'm not good asking for help. I trust God to take care of everything, but I feel HE is telling me to do this. I hope I'm right. = )

We did not run in the papers in time. So, we still run into people in town saying they did not know he was gone. They tell my Mom (who will be 80 on her next Birthday in Nov) if she needs anything let them know. Well this was the best way to let everyone know what is needed and if they can help. As I stated my mom is going to be 80 this year. She misses my Daddy, but she is a strong woman. Her money was cut way down. My Daddy was Retired Navy. But that doesn't seem to go for much these days. The Navy took over half my Dad's check away from her. And Social Security took one of her checks away. I don't get that. I know there is one less person for food, etc... But she still has the same bills. They just don't go away because he did. THEY need to take better care of our elderly. Because they are the ones that help build this nation. But, that's for another blog. = )

Just to give a little back ground. He became really sick in Oct. 2006, and was in and out of the hospitals and rehab for 6 months. We were told it was bad, but they could get him through. So that's what we believed. But, that wasn't the case. (Another blog about hospital later) On April 25th, 2007 he went home to be with Jesus. It crushed us and especially my mom. They were just 3 months shy of their 54th wedding anniversary. We miss him so much. Two days after he was buried. I had a birthday. That was the hardest day for me. He always called me and wished me A "Happy Birthday, Pumpkin seed" That's what he called me. That day at work my mind kept going to his call. Thinking he will be calling soon. But, it never came. Anyway, what I am in need of is help. Any help anyone can give. There is A LOT of repairs that needs to be done on my mom’s house. I wanted to just get her a nice trailer. But, her memories are in the house and she doesn't want anything else to change and I can understand that. There are bills. She didn't have much insurance and what she got went on the funeral. Which we still owe on. But, they are letting us make payments. I don't have much money myself. But, I help her as much as I can. We are making it but, it is really hard. Especially with the prices of everything going up. (electricity, gas, kerosene, etc...)

Here is what we put in the paper:
"George Greene, a Loving, Caring and Faithful Husband, Father, Grand Father, Great Grand Father, went home to be with Jesus yesterday, 4-25-07. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Jones) Greene, Portland,TN., three children, Donna (Greene) Alexander of Flagstaff, Arizona, Gary Greene of Portland, TN and Pamela Greene of Hendersonville, TN, seven grandchildren (Cliff, Jason, Chryste, William, Jessica, Michael, Sarah, Brittney) and two Great Grandchildren (Christian and Corinne)
He was Retired Navy (21 Years) and was the son of Olive and Frank Greene (deceased) of Providence, RI. He will be missed, but he is his dancing with Jesus now. No more pain. We all love you!

There is a Memorial Fund set up at Volunteer State Bank, 101 Hwy 52 W, Portland, TN. (615-325-9257) “George Greene Memorial Fund”

We received a few donations and for that we were so grateful and thankful. We still have it set up. I'm praying that there is help somewhere out there. So, if anyone wishes to donate. It would be very much appreciated. You can donate to the memorial fund or send to P O Box 348, Hendersonville, TN 37077-0348 What ever is easiest for you.

Also, if you could provide your name when making the donations, so we make thank you and pray for you. If you would rather remain anonymous that is OK too.

If you could pass this along to everyone you know that would be so great. As I stated I am not good at asking for help. I really hate it. But, I have no other choice.

I know God will provide and talk to the right people. I also am in desperate need of some counseling for a lawyer. I need to get my mom's will and place in order and I have questions and do not know where to begin. So, if anyone can help in that area also. OK, now that I have written a book. I thank you all for your time and for Mr Myers help in getting this out to you.

For more information on exactly what is needed, you can go to my space page and communicate directly with me. link is below.

Support your local volunteer firefighters

HighlandFire.jpg
Since I started writing for The Portland Progressive I've become acquainted with a wonderful group of people who give of their time and their money to help make the rural Portland area safer. As someone who lives south of the city limits, I sleep much better at night knowing that the Highland Volunteer Fire Department will respond to my home or an accident on the roads. They don't get paid to do this and most of them have other jobs. I've seen them in action at wrecks, and fires, and drownings and I'm in awe of what they do. The Portland Volunteers, the Mitchellville Volunteers and the Oak Grove Volunteers also do a wonderful job and they should be supported also.

The Highland Volunteers are currently in the middle of a fundraising drive where they are asking people in their district to donate $50. By helping them, you not only enable them to help you in an emergency but if they get enough donations they may be able to make some additions and improvements that might be able to lower their Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating from a 9 to a lower number. This will help bring your insurance premiums down. Since I'm in their district, I handed over a check yesterday. Check out their website at : http://geocities.com/highlandvfd. Their address is:
