Today's pop culture confuses the meaning of love just as much as in times of old. Love does not seek the best of the one giving the love; it seeks the best of the one receiving the love.

True love for another is realized when our thoughts, speech, and actions are performed in such a way as not to place the one we love in harm, or to bring shame upon them.

There is a question I have asked many times at our jail ministry; and that is "do you love your children?". Then I ask if they would give their life for that of their child. Most all would answer yes to those questions. Then I will ask the question "who is raising your children now?".

I do not ask those questions to be mean, but to bring awareness. If their love was as strong as they proclaim, then they would no longer make selfish decisions that ultimately place their family in danger.

Their situations are not so different than ours. Many of us live our lives based on personal desires instead of the best interest of the ones we say we love. Many times what seemed the right thing to do, was really just the right thing for me and not for my family. This is why the Lord spends so much time in the bible explaining real love; the kind that has pure motives-the kind that is wrapped in truth.

As requested I'm starting this thread to get some feedback from our bloggers on this matter.

I am not sure if this is where I need to ask a question of Portland but it seems a good enough place to start. I have a deep concern for the hungry in Portland and my question would be "Would a kitchen that served a free meal to those of need be welcome here in Portland?" Would local churches and businesses be of help?

This blogger cared enough to ask and obviously cares about our community and individuals in Portland that may be experiencing difficult times. Although many of us are blessed with hot meals every day, I'm sure there are some that aren't as fortunate. What are your thoughts?

Code Red is up and running. Please go and sign up to recieve emergency alerts. The City's Web Site has the info.www.cityofportlandtn.gov
Storm alerts, local situations, etc.

This will be a great help to those within the city limits. Hopefully the program will expand overtime.

Today is the anniversary of my Dad's home going. I know where he is and he is in such a better place right now And I know he is dancing with my Jesus.

After seeing the report on TV last evening about the 12 Y.O. Sumner County girl that met her rapist on MY Space, I thought this would be a good time to bring up this topic on the blog.

What are your experiences with MY Space?
Should there be better security measures that not allow under age members?
What do you do in monitoring under age computer users in your household?

By request I am starting this thread

Hi all. I was wondering if you could possibly start a thread regarding zoning issues in the city limits. I moved out here from California almost two years ago, and one of my big draws to this area was the land. So I bought a house and 5 acres, with the intention of allowing my children to raise a couple of animals for livestock shows, and for my family to have a handful of chickens for eggs.

We had asked our Realtor to check the zoning, and she claimed she did (my fault completely for not checking myself.) ~ To make a long story short, I have asked our City Council to take into consideration changing the zoning to allow for livestock with limitations (like the zoning for horses that just went into effect) ~ I am just trying to get a feel for what all of you think. Thanks for listening.
