Today the blog underwent its upgrade, we are experiencing a few problems like not being able to post a commment. This is a result of a major security update to the Movable Type platform of the blog.
You can still read the blog, but you can't post any new comments.
They should have everything working again by Saturday.
In the mean time get out and enjoy this wonderful warmer weather!
Thank you for your patience
Judy & Charlie
Is anybody else getting wild fluctuations in electric bills since CEMC installed their new automated, electronic meters? I am noticing huge increases in the monthly bills, and I don't think all of the variations would be due to the weather.

On The Ballot
There may be few who post on this blog, but there are many who read.
Here is your opportunity to explain why you are for or against LBTD. This is not to be used to bash the other side, but to lay out your argument as you see it.
It seems that Jody and myself have become poster boys for our respective sides; and even though we disagree with each other, we are always able to talk about it without anger.
Someone may be on the fence - so this is your chance to give a honest intellectual explanation of your position.
This may be a citizen sponsored referendum and not up to the council; but if you are running for office we encourage you to come and post your point of view and why.
Remember democracy works both ways; sometimes your side wins and sometimes your side looses, but at least you had the opportunity and the freedom to vote.

Questions have been raised as to whether or not
will be back on the ballot in May. The Answer is...
YES

Three current Councilman terms will expire in May of 2009, Luther Bratton, Mike Callis, Allen Dwyer plus the Mayor 's term will expire as well. With the City election just months away, who's names will be on the ballot? What is the scoop around town, will there be new individuals running for said seats, if so, what would you like to see as goals of any new candidates or of those running for re-election. Will we see any referendums on the ballot as well? ex: LBTD, New Taxes, etc...

Your local Library is ready to expand, but it needs your help. This project will be funded by county, city, and private donations. Your donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated. If you have a special set of skills specifically suited to this type of project, contact them; in-kind work is needed also.
You can go to the City's web-site City Of Portland for more info and you can download the .pdf brochure here.
Thank you for your help,

"Meet The Authors"
Local authors Bill Barton and Henry (Chip) Arnold, will be at Liberty FWB Church Sunday Jan. 25th at 11:00am to discuss their book and their motivation for writing it. This modern story is based around the Bible story of Job. Many in our church have been reading this book for the last couple of months, and we are using this book, Hometown Favorite, as a prelude to an in depth study of Job starting in February.
This is a very good book and we recommend anyone to read it. After service we will be having a dinner and time to speak with the authors, and they will be signing books also.
All are welcome.

The blog administrators would like to remind everybody of a blog rule: closing posts to comments is frowned upon since this is a blog and not a bulletin board, and authors are asked not to do so. The purpose of the blog is to facilitate communications by having open discussions. This cannot be done if people cannot comment.
We realize that some of you were probably not aware of this rule, so we won't change the flag on existing posts. However, starting today (1/10/2009), if an administrator finds an "allow comments" flag turned off, we will turn it on. Thank you very much for your cooperation!
On a different subject, we might be upgrading the Movable Type platform of the blog. So, if you see changes in the weeks/months ahead, don't be alarmed.
Thanks!
Judy and Charlie

Small town politics at times can be more stressful then State or Federal, simply because you see an interact with those you represent on a daily basis; and local politics are by no means exempt from rumors.
First let me say that I am not running for Mayor. (give a moment for the applause to stop...)
