Well, the year 2009 is almost gone. Was it a good year or did we have our heads stuck, huh, in the sand and ignored what was happening? What is your opinion?
Hope everyone has a Happier New Year!!!

I rest my case.
Passerby, Feel free to contact Charlie and become a blog author then you can paint this world all rosie and pretend that we live in a fairy tale world. I don't see where Portland as a City has been bashed and perhaps you need to realize that everyone has their own opinions and they aren't necessarily the way you see it. I'm sure there may be people that may stumble across this blog, as you say, and think that many of us are feeling things many across the blogging world are feeling, we are no different here in Portland than many other communities and it is not a reflection on this city but what is happening around this country.
I haven't posted much over the past months as I too have been rather busy with many different things, including how to survive on the Obama $300 as my husband has become victim of this wonderful economy after 35 years of continuous employment in the construction trade to now for the first time in his life be receiving unemployment... yippee. We will survive, It's definately a well deserved vacation for him and hopefully short lived as he is driving me crazy. It will definately set us back on the road to retirement that's coming up within the next 10 years. But hey, we're more fortunate that some and thankful for the planning we did over the years while the economy was good.
I feel another Florida vacation coming up, it's too darn cold!!
Happy New Year!
I wish the two or three( mainly just two)on here that bombard our town's web blog with their constant whining and complaining would realize how much damage they do the town by their negative topics and posts. If you were moving and considering the town of Portland, TN and stumbled upon our blog, what would you think?
This blog is an eyesore for our community, and I can say there are a couple, one in which started this thread, that are leading the charge on here. God has everything under control. I firmly believe that. Portland, TN, and this great nation aren't half as bad as the people I speak of on here would have you believe.
Suggestion to just leave the garbage pick up on the same days always. Even in the holidays. Then you would stay on the same day all the time and only double the trash for the days missed. I hope someone out there will read this and take note.
I can think of plenty to look foward too.... I get up every morning & I am breathing & I can see & I can walk (sometimes not very well) but I can walk, talk, see (not very good), hear (not very good) but I still look foward to each and every day! I have less than a lot of people, more than some people, so I am OK. God always provides what I need (not what I always want). I look foward to everything then everything seems to make me happy!Enjoy each day you are given on God's wonderful earth!
If I didn't have my family and my faith in the Lord, I am not sure what there is to look forward to in 2010???
The economy is horrible...people are losing their jobs...I am not real excited about what's going on in Washington, DC...I am not real excited about what's happening in Portland.
Please, I need something to look forward to!
I cannot remember a good year i the past 7. We have had two idiot presidents thats for sure.
I can't complain about the past year it has been very good for my household. I managed to pay all the Credit cards off and put a nice amount in the bank as well as purchasing many things that have been on the wish list for a few years. I know it has been a rough time for many and hope things get better for everyone next year.
I get kind of tired hearing people tell me happy holidays when I am out in town...It is Merry Christmas!
I saw where newspapers have like the top stories of the year. And as I was thinking about 2009, I thought about what could be the best stories of 2009 for Portland.
Here are my suggestions...
--- Albany International to close
--- Jim Butler
--- Sandy Binkley was sentenced.
--- City Council voting to end HR department in city
--- Vote to allow liquor by the drink.
--- Two new schools open in city
--- City of Portland doesn't have Christmas parade
Well.....
I hope this past year is one that doesn't repeat itself anytime soon.
I hope recovery begins some day real soon without further drowning this nation in debt because it isn't working.
I hope before it's too late that our government starts listening to those that elected them and stop this healthcare bill.
I hope layoffs, shutdowns, and job losses have bottomed out and people can recover and begin to move forward.
I hope our military men/women soon get to see the light at the end of the tunnel and return home safe & sound.
Since I've seem to of lost faith in so much this past year all I have left is HOPE.
Happy New Year everyone, It certainly can't get much worse!... atleast I HOPE not!
The problem was not ignored by our country's leaders, they just made it worse.
