Judy and I have been discussing the blog archives, which grow bigger every day. We currently have a rule that says that once something is on the blog, it stays on the blog forever.
We think this may be an overkill, and we would like to change how we archive things.
1. Dated-information-type entries are deleted seven days after the date has come and gone. This gives the author time to make an update on how the event went, etc. This kind of entry would include announcements about yard sales, camps, church events, etc.
2. The first of Janaury, we'll export the entire blog to a text file. Then we'll delete everything on the blog that's over a year old. (The exported text files could theoretically be used by someone who wanted to research old entries and comments on the blog.)
By making these changes, we think the blog would be fresher and more current. Also, this would definitely cut down on spam. Automated spambots sometimes post the same spam message onto each of the 400+ entries on the blog.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.
Charlie

Thank you for your help!
my God, i thought you were going to chip in with some decisive insght at the end there, not leave it with we leave it to you to decide.
I think I would just use an open source bulletin board software. vbulletin, phpBB, invision board etc. And requiring users to register before posting is the only way to effectively curb spam.
You and Judy do whatever you think is best. You are the ones that take care of the blog so make it as easy as possible. And I might add that you 2 do a fine job.
