Beth, I'm not Charlie, but as someone who has used the walking track a lot at the park behind the library....I want to tell you, it's a GREAT place to walk and very safe. You'll enjoy it a lot, I'm sure. Sounds like you are new to Portland.....so......Welcome to Portland !

I was watching the Council meeting today and seen where they are discussing getting the Alert Calling system for Portland residents that will call your home under emergency conditions, ex: Tornado, Hazards, etc. I'm impressed! It sounds like a great plan and one that would be similar to what News5 currently offers except the city system would be able to alert on other emergency related local occurances as well as weather warnings. If I understood it right it could be up within a month of approval. And you could select what types of alerts you wanted to be called for.

Charlie, is that the park near the library? Is it a safe park for walking? I have been looking for a track to go to once spring arrives. Thanks!

I notice that Richland park now allows pets. This is a nice change! A couple of things:
1. Pets have to be on leashes.
2. You have to clean up after your pet. (There are new boxes placed along the walking trail with plastic bags.)
3. There is still a sign near the entrance that says "No Pets." That needs to be removed. (I called the Parks Department to verify the new pet policy.)
