As some of you know I am in Weight Watchers and we meet every Monday at the Hospital. Rumor had it at our meeting last night that the Hospital is closing because of financial problems. I sure hope it is not true.

I live on the north side of town and it sounded like a jet taking off but it lasted for at least 15 minutes. What was it? To me it sounded like it came from the Gas Plant on TGT Road. Is this a common occurrence? I sure wish we would have been warned it was going to happen.
Tried to call P.D. and the Fire Department and the phone was busy. However I was offered (For a Fee of $2.00) for the phone company to keep calling the number. Needless to say I was NOT a Happy PORTLAND resident last night.
Driving through town today, I was shocked to see the Rotary Hall [across TN109 from the gazebo] in ruins. It looks like a fire gutted the insides and caused the front half of the building to collapse. Does anyone know the details?
For those of you who have telephone service provided by Comcast, did you know they charge an additional $4.50 per line per month not to list your phone number in the AT&T phone directory? As far as I am concerned, this is an invasion of privacy (in addition to being a total ripoff). I hope the Portland Cable Commission will bring up this issue the next time Comcast's contract is up for renewal. I also hope the FCC considers the fairness/legality of this Comast policy.

With just days until the Presidential election I thought we needed one last post.
The earlier posts combined received almost 500 comments. They have been rather "spirited" at times but everyone has done a great job in staying on topic. I 've learned so much over the past months and hope everyone has done the same by doing their homework before going to the polls. I have truly enjoyed being a part of the previous posts and thank everyone for their participation, especially Prometheus and Daniel.
Regardless of who the winner may be it is important that this country unite as one and support our next President of the United States as this country has a very long and winding road ahead.
Do you have a favorite recipe that you cook in "The Fall"?
With the changing of the seasons, I bet a lot of folks around here have some really great fall recipes - and I'm one of those cooks that needs all the help I can get. I'd much rather use tried and true recipes than to find some random website.
Me personally I don't cook much (my wife does). However I am real good at eating. That's why I am in Weight Watchers.
