Happy Posting - Judy

Here's your spot to speak your thoughts on these topics, it has been getting rather heated in other areas and felt perhaps this needed it's own space.

I will keep this topic rolling toward the top of the page as long as there are comments being made. Please remember foul language/and personal attacks will not be permitted, now play fair and go for it!.

New Blog Administrator

I would like to welcome Judy as a new Blog Administrator. Over the years, Judy's keen eyes have alerted me to questionable postings on the Portland blog.

I really respect Judy's judgment, and I think it's time for her to have Administrator privileges. These privileges will allow Judy to edit all entries and comments. In addition, she will be able to delete entries and/or comments which do not meet blog standards.

I have asked Judy to write a little about herself, and this is reproduced below. I would personally like to thank Judy for her help in keeping this blog a place where we can all work for a better Portland.

Main Street Plan

Tonight the Main Street Plan was unveiled; and lets just say it was very nice and will look beautiful when finished.

This is currently set as a 4 phase project.

And while it will be a 80-20 grant deal, it does not cover those owners who will need to remodle their back door entry and other things.
I support a tax abatement loan or some kind of tax waiver, so the owners can do some upgrades.
I believe it would right to give some kind of incentive package to mainstreet owners in an effort to fix the back sides of the building.

Hope to have some of the plan up on the city's web site soon, and a copy can be obtained from planning.

Please make an opportunity to see this plan, MainStreet will be transformed for the better.

This will be a multi-year project using grant money to help offset the cost.

Some of the elements will be started on quickly; like moving the trash and grease traps, and place new lighting in the alley ways.
Thanks
mike

Question for bloggers

I am throwing this out here for comment. I was approached by an individual who gave me the idea of looking into a citywide internet access. What this would involve would be a type of router mounted in strategic locations (we already have towers now for our police, fire, and city utilities). This would allow us to offer wi-fi internet to folks, possibly by billing it to their utility bill. I understand it would be a very inexpensive charge for users, and could also be used by our public safety personnell. Of course the idea would be that it have great coverage.. Apparently there are cities doing this now, and it's a great money generator.
