Calling all new moms
Hi everyone I am not only new to Portland but also a new mom to a 4 month old baby boy.
I was wondering if anyone could suggest things to do with my son. I'm a stay at home mom and
I'm having a hard time finding any mommy and me groups or activities close to Portland. Am I the
only one?? I'm willing to drive to other towns but would really like to find other Portland mom's.

The Lapsit on Fridays is GREAT! I can't say enough how wonderful, Linda, the children's librarian is! She really understands that these little people are toddlers and doesn't expect them to be still, quiet, ect. Best of all the activity is FREE! Also, the new Richland Park is great! You may need to wait until your baby is a little older, but they do have an area that is designed for the little ones.
I also enjoy the Mommy and Me swim class at Sea Star Swim School in Hendersonville. They start pretty young also, and my little boy loves it!
I try to avoid the play place at McDonald's as it is kind of gross.
If you are willing to drive, pick up a Nashville Parent Magazine. They are free and list all types of activities. Some are free, some aren't, but most are fun activities to enjoy with you little one.
Also, stop by the Secret Garden in Gallatin, off of the Square. That place is like the center of the universe. It is a children's consignment and resale shop. They have a play area in the middle of the store and it is easy to spend an hour gabbing with the other moms in there while you get great deals on clothes for your little one.

Google music city moms on the internet. It is a message board all about mothers and what they face. They also have play groups but you may have to drive. But just the interaction on the internet could help. And I second the library-great place to meet other mothers. Also I don't know if you attend church or have a church home but The best way I made friends was at my church. Portland Church of christ is bustling with plenty of mothers and they are very welcoming and warm. You could visit a few times and see if you like that.

Hey! I am a stay at home too, and moved here from Gallatin...and lets say that was a change!! The best ideas I have found are going to the park and also the library has lapsit days on Fridays. Each week is a different theme, they read a story and do a craft..plus it is a great way to mee other mothers..Fridays at 10:30..i think this week is butterflies, but next week they arent having it due to easter. The friday session is specialized for infants and toddlers only. Hope that helps!!!
