You Are Invited!
Brian Ruckle, who first suggested that Portland needs a blog, has now suggested we have a lunch so that blog participants may meet each other in person. The lunch is Dutch treat and is open to anyone who wants to attend. Brian suggested a good meeting place would be the El Moro Mexican Restaurant on the north end of Portland. The date is Monday, March 3, 2008, at 11:30 a.m.
Again, this lunch is open to anyone, whether or not you actually participate on the blog. This will be a good time to meet each other, share ideas on the blog, share ideas on Portland, etc.
Hope to see lots of people there!
Charlie

I enjoyed the lunch yesterday and getting to know those who attended. Monday lunch was a great time for me, but I'd also like to see us do a future date for Saturday lunch or an evening meal so othat those who aren't able to come to weekday lunch might join us.

I would like to have joined you all, but work out of town Mon - Fri...maybe you could schedule something for a Sat lunch/brunch? Or even a Fri evening?

Update on Luncheon:
Attended: Charlie, Brian, MG, Helen, and Judy
Although I myself had hoped more would of attended, it was great to be able to put faces with names, and enjoyed the afternoon outing. We talked about several items, how the site was started, cleaning out old posts, generating activity, cutting down unwanted spam, use of polls and images in posts, etc. It was also a great opportunity to learn a little about one another. I found out Charlie and I were almost neighbors years ago in Florida. Small world!
Great time, I enjoyed it, perhaps the next time we can do a luncheon at 5 Chefs.

How did the luncheon go?

If you have one in May. Count me in. As long as it don't interfere with The Strawberry Festival. We will be there by Late April

I bet there are others who feel the same way, and I completely understand that meeting in person is going to be outside of many people's comfort zone, but personally I think it would be fun and I hope that I can make arrangements to be there.
Unlike me, the majority of people post their comments under an "alias" (some more than one . . .lol) and I don't see any reason that anyone would have to reveal their alias just because they come. Shoot, if you really don't know anyone there, use your alias and leave us guessing who you really are. lol
Whether I get to come or not, I hope it is great fun for those who do.

I've spent a couple of days thinking about this. When I first read it, my first thought was "Cool, I'd love to meet some of these people in person--and Monday is my day off." But as I thought about it, I was concerned that I might lose some of my objectivity. I kind of look at myself as an outsider because I don't have any long-running feuds or alliances here. Heck, what if I develop a new feud or alliance over lunch and ruin my outsider status?? Will I ever feel truly free to blog again?? Seriously though, I will try to make it for lunch. :-)

I am self-employed. I have a house-cleaning business. I have been cleaning houses in Brentwood, Franklin, Green Hills, Bellevue, etc for about 5 years. My husband and I have lived in Portland for almost 7 years. I would like very much to offer my services to clients in Portland. All of my clients have come from "word of mouth" referrals. I am not sure how to get my reputation of being dependable, reliable, trustworthy and affordable to the clients who would so appreciate my services. I will be at the lunch on March 3, maybe I can meet some clients there. I have other ideas for Portland community events, as well.

I guess I have to be there since I'm the one who suggested it during a telephone conversation today. It will be nice to finally be able to put a face to the names. There are lots of ways we could improve and add value to the blog. I'd like to hear your ideas and I'd like to share mine. Look forward to seeing some of you.
