Cash? Not Here
I have been seeing on tv and reading on the internet about places that will NOT accept CASH as a form of payment. If you don't have a credit or debit card then they do not want your business.
Is this discrimination against those that choose not to have a CC or a banking account or the ones that prefer to pay "Cash Only"??
Is this the wave of the future or just a sign of the times? Will there come a time when we no longer have cash in our pockets......We just become a number in order to buy and sell??

Indeed, numbers are satanic.
That explains the divide between religion and science...Mathematics are the fast lane to hell.

Yes it's stupid.
When you use a card your taken a chance on some getting your card numbers and if it is a credit card your also paying a finance charge. How smart is that.
If they said we are only going to accept mexican peso a lot of you would be mad as ---- think about it.

Tim,
I agree with you that this could be the sign of the times. It does state in Revelations that we will each be assigned a "number". It could be that we are moving "forward" with only using numbers, starting with credit cards.

The only real problem I have with this situation is from the security aspect.Just ask the registered voters in Nashville and the people who shopped TJ Maxx. They had their computer system hacked and thousands of people's information such as credit card numbers,SS#s and driver's license numbers were exposed. There were more than 300,000 voters personal information on the stolen metro election commission laptops.Someone aquired my credit card number last year and made several fraudulent charges on my account. That made for some tense moments around our house.

How can this be misconstrued as being discriminatory? Debit cards/credit cards are not difficult to obtain, and they are much safer and faster than checks and cash. People can run their businesses anyway they want. If you don't like it, don't go there.
How unfortunate that Portland may have to keep up with the rest of world!

Actually it's a HUGE step forward, not backwards by any means. And totally different from the analogy given. So different that I cannot fathom a comment, lol, because I don't know where to begin......

The Visa gift card is a great idea, actually, and a very good point. Good sales pitch ;) lol

I can understand, to a point, about the getting robbed thing but I also think it is discrimination.
I'm sure you lived thru it or read about how the blacks couldn't enter thru the front door of an establishment or sit at a lunch counter. How is this any different?? The blacks had no rights. Now people that don't have a credit card can't shop at certain establishments. Where are their rights?
Yes, this is scarey. Seems we are stepping back in time not forward.

I rarely, if ever, carry cash anymore. I use my debit card for pretty much everything. I feel the popular move a lot of businesses are making to accept no cash is merely for safety reasons. Heck, I haven't been inside of a gas station in many years since the wonderful ability of pay at the pump, lol!

I also read the story about Bellacino's in Nashville and I completely understand their fear. I worked at Calhoun's in Rivergate several years ago as a part-time supplement during a rough time and I quit after it was robbed . . . out of fear. (I was supposed to be there that night, but had gone home early because it was an extremely slow night)
I don't think it is a "conspiracy" because it is the decision of the individual business owners and not the government and if anyone is worried about anyone knowing how many pizzas, or anything else, they are buying each month, all anyone has to do is buy a VISA GIFT CARD. It isn't "registered" and it can be used anywhere VISA is accepted. (Does that sound like a sales pitch or what . . . lol . . . it's not, it's just the way my thoughts came out . . . lol)

I only pay with cash.. I have had a bank account and I sad to say I overdrew all the time. I find it easier with cash. I pay and when its gone its gone. Trust me its never in my wallet long enough for me to worry about someone stealing it.My gas tank seems to soak it all up.

Dawn, I agree, I am not much for the conspiracy theory idea, but it does offer businesses (and employees) a huge measure of safety, and I say that having worked in a convienence store in San Diego. Besides, there are places (around here, as a matter of fact) that only take cash..... so I guess it goes both ways

I know that everyone is not religious on this site, but this sure does seem to get us one step closer to the world described in Revelations doesn't it?
Funny how a book written two thousand years ago could predict something like that... or not. Depending on your situation.

I agree with Dawn but also with DA, credit card numbers are an easy way for the government to keep track of us

Well I have to say that it could be good for the fact of getting robbed. That could make those situation almost obsolete. For instance, I saw where Bellacino's in Nashville is only taking check and Credit Cards. It takes worry out of the minds of the employees. If you have ever worked in a fast food place or something like that you know what I am talking about. I think that it possibly a good thing.

Scary, isn't it? I remember 25 year ago, hearing that someday we would be using credit cards at the grocery store, and thinking, "No way." Now I use my check card everywhere I go.
Makes me think of all the futuristic books we read in high school, like "1984." And never fear, Americans. Big brother IS watching.
