Yoda,
Not over done. I happen to have been a huge supporter and volunteer of the special Olympics. So for you to be that big of a jerk, just really hits me in the chest. Not really concerned about your so called "PC". Thank you kindly and may you have a blessed day.
Posted by: jj at November 13, 2007 10:51 AM
My, oh, my! aren't we touchy? Overdone Political Correctness is. Thin skins we have developed. Afraid to laugh we are.
Posted by: Fan of Yoda at November 13, 2007 06:44 AM
I was not taking another shot at you. I said,"I stand corrected". Therefore, I am keeping to the issues, realizing I was being stupid. I should have just came straight out and said," sorry".
As for Yoda, is it? Making refrences about the Special Olympics and retards. Yeah, your so damn cool on that one. J.B.F. and I are cool. It became obvious we both had a lot to say and alot to learn. But making cracks on the Special Olympics, thats just sad. Joking or not. SAD!
Posted by: jj at November 6, 2007 10:44 AM
Apology accepted. Thanks, Yoda. :)
Posted by: DeeAnna at November 1, 2007 10:45 PM
The Yoda humbly apologizes. Twas an old saying on the internet. Yoda will watch himself. Sorry. :(
Posted by: Yoda at November 1, 2007 10:16 PM
hey everybody, me and jj are cool now. we got a little silly on here, now we can talk about other stuff. i also, even though i didn't say it then, agree with the assessment of our police force. take care jj.....
its all good.
Posted by: J.B.F at November 1, 2007 09:44 PM
No....this blog is in no way like the Special Olympics and that was demeaning to even compare the two. Those kids participating in Special Olympics are trying with all they have to do something and accomplish something extraordinary for themselves and they are giving it their all.
The bloggers here who want to argue and be rude to each other aren't in way worthy to be compared to Special Olympians.
That was a very crude analogy.
Posted by: DeeAnna at November 1, 2007 07:33 PM
jj and jbf:
Like running at the Special Olympics, arguing on the internet is. Even if you win, still retarded, you are, yesss. Grammar perfect mine is not, yell at me, will you? Enough, the both of you, hmmmmm. Flame war this is turning into. Stop it must, yesss!

jj:
Your latest shot at me made absolutely no sense:
"Seems that you just care about J.B.F. and not the entire picture"
Huh?....You took the initial shot at me and my grammer in another post, I just had to call you out on the fact that you too, have grammer issues. Don't allow yourself to feel the need to pick on other people and their posts if your skin is so thin that you can't take it back. Entire picture? I really don't care, I am just addressing you and your initial attack on me.
Posted by: J.B.F. at November 1, 2007 10:11 AM
I have 2 children at Watt Hardison, if this infection shows up there, my kids will not be going back until the school is sanitized. I can not believe Wiseman is having classes. May seem like an over reaction to some, BUT this thing can and has killed.
Wiseman should have closed it up until they could have a professional come in and sanitize the school. There are also several cases in Robertson County. Springfield High School Athletic Dept was mentioned. I don't mean to be an alarmist here, but didn't Portland Play Springfield a couple of weeks ago? Does anyone know if there is a incubation period for this and how long before symptoms show up?
I just think we are all better off safe now before were sorry later.
Posted by: JW at November 1, 2007 08:42 AM
J.B.F.
I stand corrected. And I thank you for pointing out my grammer and run-ons. But it still stands as, "former" training. Formal is a great word but it did not fit with what I had wanted to say. Former: coming before in time b: of, relating to, or occurring in the past. As in, he has no former training. As in, never in the past has he had experience or education. With formal,a: following or according with established form, custom, or rule which he now does have the proper education. Or he could be just going to the FORMAL in his tux.
The bottom line, I am concerned with the police department and the safety of this fine city. Perhaps if everyone felt this, the city would not be putting the officers lives in danger by making them to weary. Physically or mentally fatigued
to perform thier jobs at the effectiveness necessary to perserve peace and safety. Its been proven that most shootings or crashes involving police have happened because of fatigue. Now on to the money that is being spent on these actions.
I dont think I should have to go into great detail to say this. Money that could be used to help prevent, oh I don't know, say staph or other serious infections in our community. But yet I yield to you J.B.F.. You were just merely pointing out that my grammer too was poorly written. Seems that you just care about J.B.F. and not the entire picture. So thank you.
Posted by: jj at November 1, 2007 08:40 AM
Dear jj:
Maybe you need to stop worrying about our police force, and worry more about your grammer,( as you addressed myself needing to do so as well in another post)...
"numberous" bad activities?
"Oh did I happen to mention that the current Chief of Police, has no "former" police training"....
Don't you mean FORMAL?
I also don't have the space to fully dissect the run-on sentences and incomplete sentences you offered in your post. Get your "grammer" right before you post about the "grammer" of other posters....

I did indeed,Daniel. A letter was sent home from my son's preschool class there. Do you know any details?

I guess everyone heard about the first case of staph infection being found in Sumner County at JW Wiseman today.

I'm beginning to think this string has lost it's purpose...just the same stuff over and over now, everyone putting in negatives and positives...
Hope everyone out there has a Safe and Happy Halloween tonight...also don't forget, the clocks Fall Back this weekend...

What struck me were the repetitive phrases....LOL
Posted by: DeeAnna at October 31, 2007 03:42 PM
stilllaughingatpoortownppl ,
I could not help but observe in your post how bothered you are about negative post's and people you refer to.
Have YOU read your post?......Not much positive in there either.
Practice what you preach!
Posted by: JW at October 31, 2007 03:26 PM
This is addressed to the fine city of Portland.
I had recently inquired to why the city will only hire post-certified officers. Specially in recent light of the past 2 months of over time and the officers that were let go for numberous bad activities. The city told me that it is not cost effective to send someone to the academy. Yet they can justify almost $40,000 in over time just for the months of August and September. Now Donelson Academy roughly runs about $2,200 to send a new cadet to training. Add in the training wages from our city, that roughly comes out to about $3,300-3,500. Now add in the yearly salary of about $32,000/yr, that nearly comes to the $40,000/yr. Now I am no wizard of finances, but through 12 months, thats an extra 6 officers on the force, on the road, protecting and serving.
This would seem really sensible to me, considering the injuries, call-outs, vacations, terminations, officers leaving for other opportunities, ect..ect..ect..
We cry wolf that our city is under powered by the police, lets do something sensible about it and make the right decisions. Oh did I happen to mention that the current Chief of Police, has no former police training, that he himself was sent to Donelson for training? Now that is quite an oxy moron city. What are we going to do about this?

I have been hearing about this site for months from numerous people just haven't had time to visit. So today I have been reading most of the blogs from the Bandys to trash disposal so own so forth. You know nothing has changed !! I grew up in Portland, attended school till graduation. I couldn't wait to leave that smalltown, gossiping, backstabing two-faced people still exist. It doesn't matter if it is a blog or a workplace. Why do you have to blog about someone (gossip) (two-faced) are we not grownups? I see the people are the same as they were twenty five years ago,I understand why this town doesn't prosper. Because there citizens are blogging over crazy stuff instead of making a difference you are adding fuel to everyone's fire. The government will eventually come in take over this town and that will give all the negative bloggers something to blog about..When will the name calling backstabing, and gossiping about things stop. I could see if it was helping someone but from what I had read all you guys want to do is run people down. have a Happy Halloween and hope the globins nor the devils don't consume you tonight. I will make sure that I pray for the individuals who are gossiping, backstabing when i attend church on Sunday and I look around and wonder how many of the church members are the ones doing blogging and pretendng to be so SANCTIMONIOUS. (Don't pass judgement on others until you take a look at your self). So sorry about the all caps...
Posted by: stilllaughingatpoortownppl at October 31, 2007 12:26 PM
Just wanted you guys to know.......I have soooo enjoyed reading everyones input. FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!
On to another note----Everyone watch your childrens candy yet again this year (like we've ever stopped) Anyways, the new one this year is opening is to open Pop Rocks, rolling the candy in meth, and then putting it back in the package. Ok, now, my kids cannot stand this candy. I on the other hand, LOVE Pop Rocks. Guess, I won't be stealing any of that this year.LOL

I remember when I was a teenager we used to do scavenger hunts several times a year, especially around Halloween. They were always no harm, just fun, but not part of an organization or anything. But then again, it's a different world now. Hopefully it was just kids having a good time being kids, too old to trick or treat, the drought did in the corn mazes this year, only so many haunted houses one can go to!

new to portland - Welcome
It's hard to say at this time of the year, I don't blame you for being a bit concerned, I think just being observant as you were was good. Hope you're enjoying living in portland & welcome to the blog.
Posted by: Judy at October 30, 2007 02:08 PM
Are any of you aware of a teen scavenger hunt that was going on Saturday night? There was a group of teens in our neighborhood after dark claiming to be on a scavenger hunt. If they had identified themselves as being with a youth group or other organization, I would have been OK with it. But they didn't say anything about that. When one of my neighbors did not answer their door, they just "hung out" on their front porch for several minutes and it made me a little uncomfortable. Did anyone else hear of anything like this?
Posted by: new to portland at October 30, 2007 01:54 PM
This whole thing is so silly, I can't believe I even replied to it, but I did. Ackkkk shoot me!
Yoda - Welcome to the blog, too much time, nah, a few clicks of the mouse and blog authors have all that information right at their fingertips in a flash. May the force be with you ;) & Happy Posting!
jwmason - You are way too funny.... thanks for your texan humor :)) miss seeing you around, guess you're finally drying out down there.

I don't see that added anything positive to the blog, as he/she says is lacking here...and I don't see how our comments have stopped him or anyone else from posting their comments. As for the "back off" comment...that was waaay too hostile sounding and as for mentioning certain names..I see that as a personal attack. He sounds as negative as he thinks we are.
When the blog admininstrator tells me I can't comment here...then I will stop. Until then, it's a blog and that's what blogs are for..our opinions...you have yours...and I have mine.
As for the other person who said let them move to KY and pay their taxes....I just want you to know that my husband and I HAVE been paying KY taxes for years...both state and city of Bowling Green..because my husband works in Bowling Green.
As for Portland, if you read my last comments, I did say it was a nice quiet town to live in. How is that negative ?
Is is very hard to shop here or enjoy an evening out here if you like nice restaurants..that's a fact that everyone knows.
Personally, I think you just wanted to bash us.

Don't forget those that don't live in Portland. I read the blog almost daily. I only post when I think it might help.
On a lighter note:
In this corner we've got....
(sorry couldn't resist)
Posted by: jwmason at October 30, 2007 11:33 AM
Wow!!! Sounds like jh opened a can of worms! I myself have noticed a lot of posts from the same people, but it that kind of negative thought never occurred to me. I think it is because other people are just not participating on the blog! It's no one's fault, just the non-bloggers!
I enjoy reading everyone's opinion, and we all certainly have one or we wouldn't be here passing it on! Maybe we could encourage others in Portland to join us on this site rather than complain about the few of us who are here! I like to read what others in town are thinking about different topics -- doesn't mean I have to agree or disagree...let's just keep communicating!
Posted by: gw at October 30, 2007 10:44 AM
Jessica - out of the last 220 comments posted in the past 24 days you left a whopping total of "3". :)) Happy Posting - Judy
Posted by: Judy at October 30, 2007 09:16 AM
Pardon me,JH, but I have never even started a blog topic on here, thank you very much. I have only commented, which is exactly what you are doing. Are you comment police? I think not. I have never acted as if I am an expert on anything, only given my personal opinion. And for your knowledge, as if it even matters, I have only posted a reply to one or two topics in the last month (and one of them was very positive about Portland Cares,if you may recall since you are tracking my postings). How is answering a post's question about MY experience or MY opinion senseless chatter? Simply because you disagree or have no input to share is certainly not grounds for you to put limitations on my post,or anyone else's for that matter. If you don't care to read other's opinions,go to another website, buddy. This is a blog, not a "lets share rainbows and sunshine with JH so he/she enjoys our comments". Now you have a terrific day :)

A good mechanic. The only one that I deal with in town it Walt's garage. He is over close to O'reilly's. His number is 323-7002. He does a really good job. They are super nice.
Posted by: Dawn at October 30, 2007 08:25 AM
Off topic if I may.....
Does anyone know of a good garage or mechanic around here?
Posted by: MDL at October 30, 2007 08:11 AM
jh, I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who feels that way. There seems to be an expert on every topic among those few you mentioned plus a couple of others. Never a positive comment - it's just turned into "what's wrong with Portland". Those who think Franklin is so great should move there for awhile and pay that state income tax along with a local tax Portland doesn't impose. They might come back and realize Portland isn't so bad after all. Anyway, thanks for saying what I've been thinking.
Posted by: portland fan at October 30, 2007 07:30 AM
jh - You are entitled to your opinion, as well as I am entitled to mine. For the record, I went back to the comment log for the last 24 days, I left 15 out of 220 comments posted during that time. Happy Posting - Judy

When I first discovered the blog a couple of years ago, I really enjoyed it. I even added a comment on occassion. Lately, it seems 3 or 4 people have taken it over as their own personal chat room and are continually taking over every topic ordered. I know it's a free country and we all have the right to speak our mind, but if you take notice, about every other blog is from DeeAnna, Judy, Michelle Hanners or Jessica Escue. To make matters worse, these ladies seem to never have had a positive expierience with any one or any thing and yet have the answer to every problem other bloggers have encountered. Do everyone a favor ladies and back off. We might get some more positive imput from other interested parties if they didn't have to put up with your senseless chatter.
Posted by: jh at October 29, 2007 08:28 PM
Jazzy....I know exactly what you mean. Just after the yard sale ordinance was passed, my Red Hat group decided to have a benefit yard sale for Relay For Life. I live on High St. and we needed to put a sign at the top of the road by City Hall to show people where the sale was going to be.
Since the ordinace stated that no signs could be posted on "the right of way"...there was no where to put a sign. So we asked a man standing outside who worked at City Hall, where we could put a sign. This was a BENEFIT yard sale, afterall, and considered it to be a good cause. He reluctantly said he guessed it'd be ok for us to put a sign up if we promised to take it right down after the sale was over.
Now, I have seen all kinds of yard sale signs, on right of ways....etc....and not being taken down.
No, it seems they aren't enforcing that ordinance at all.....Guess they didn't bother to appoint a yard sale czar to go around a issue tickets..LOL LOL
Personally, I think that whole deal about yard sales, was just to keep a few certain people from running businesses out of their homes without paying taxes.
They ended up just making it harder on the regular housewife now to get rid of stuff. I know the city lets people advertise their sales on the website, but does anyone really look there??
No...they look in the papers. Now do we have to pay for ads in the paper? Maybe it was a plot by the papers to get more revenue, by making us buy ads !! I don't know....
You're right. If they are going to make these silly ordinances, they need to either enforce them or take them off the books !!
Posted by: DeeAnna at October 29, 2007 12:59 PM
Ok, um, Jazzy3, are you bored?
Posted by: hello at October 29, 2007 11:44 AM
I have a question about the yard sale rules that this town has put in place. Are these rules being enforced??
There are some people that seem to be having a yard sales just about every weekend. They can't be registering these sales or someone would catch this don't you think????
Personally I could care less how many yard sales someone has but since the city found it necessary to limit the about of sales a person can have, then the rules need to be followed. By Everyone!!
Posted by: Jazzy3 at October 29, 2007 10:39 AM
Oh yeah, she's still there. I know exactly who you're talking about.

I was wondering does the high school still have that mean secretary at the front door. That lady is the rudest person, I have ever dealt with at any place or buisness. Surely the secretaries and the other employees are not tenrued.
Posted by: Frank at October 26, 2007 05:59 PM
Maybe the next President of the United States will create a "No Teacher Left Behind" program...
Parental involvement is usually most appreciated when it's time to write checks for fund-raisers, it seems. I haven't had a child in schools for years, but apparently not much has changed over the years. That's sad.
Posted by: DeeAnna at October 26, 2007 03:53 PM
Judy -- About the schools. The Sumner County School system is pitiful. No other word for it. I once asked the secretary at the middle school to send a document to me via email, and she said, "No, I don't know how."
I replied, "Go get a sixth grader to show you."
As for the high school, forget it. They always cry that they want more parent involvment, but when you try to contact them, they act as if anything that goes on at the school is really none of your business. I hope the new principal will make a difference.
If you are in business, and have email access, you would be expected to check it daily, wouldn't you? Same should go for the teachers, at all levels.

This guy I work with is good for about 3 stories a week like the one I mentioned earlier. The printer never works and when that happens, He slams the paper drawer against the wall sounds like a minor earthquake. Im like well if the printer had paper it might actually work.

Good one Frank
As a former IT person i've seen other's with the same knowledge.
ie.. The guy who called his computer wasn't working. After going through a long test this and that. His power had gone out in a storm (no electricty, no computer).

Frank - OMG, Way too FUNNY! Thanks for a good laugh this morning!
Posted by: Judy at October 25, 2007 10:17 AM
I bet some teachers probably don't use email or they have problems accessing it. All of my dealings with the high school have been great. A lot of folks are still old fashioned about stuff like that.
Funny story there is a guy I work with and he has no comupter knowledge. He was wanting to delete something off the computer and we told him just to drag it down to the trash can. He gave us a funny look like are you serious, and we said yea. Well the computer and the monitor showed up in the trash can down the hall about 30 minutes later.

My granddaughter is in her first year at PHS, this has been a good first grading period experience, and not so good. My daughter has attempted to communicate with all of her teachers via e-mail from the PHS website, only ONE replied! Report cards went home first block Monday via students. Schools calendar makes no mention of it, her report card is still in her locker as a result of 2 poor grades, only one the mom was aware of because atleast ONE teacher replied to e-mails & mailed home a notice of her performance!
We realize that at this point the students are supposed to be more responsible and is a transition period that will take most of the year to get used to. Why do they have these resources available to parents if the School and Teachers don't utilize them (e-mail & calendar of events).
