Blog Questions / Suggestions your thoughts needed
A couple months back I started a weekly thread for "Around the town" as suggested by a fellow blogger, this has worked out fairly well for general discussion. The administrator of the blog, Charlie has said he would like to see more specific threads as well brought to the blog to allow for topics to be more focally in line to a specific topic. All for it!
A recent poster has noted that they don't like the weekly "Around the Town" threads because it bumps other threads down the page too quickly. This is the way this blog is set up and to the best of my knowledge it cannot be set up any differently.
What I am asking is
Do you want the "Around the town" posts discontinued?
Is there another way we could accomplish keeping more up to date information up front? NO, other than not starting any new threads.
One of the things I thought of is maybe making a MONTHLY posting for
Around the Town - Sports - City Government - Schools and any other general specific topic that may be needed for monthly communications. Different authors would each take a topic they would start. We would still have other specific topics too that will come around from time to time and they will still get bumped down the page, maybe just not as fast.
What are your thoughts on any of this and do you have any other suggestions. Please post them here.

OK....the mystery is solved ! There is a post by Jody in another section --- he took it off himself. So NOW, what do we talk about ?? LOL LOL

sorry y'all, i wrote a big post on a distance thing with a beer permit, i found out today that it was barely over the distance required, so there was no reason to leave that post and sound stupid :o)

I don't know about that DeeAnna - did anyone contact Jody? Or the Blog Administratior?
I was just explaining how to move a thread back to the top if new comments are made without losing old comments, or taking up more space.

Hmmm...well, maybe someone who didn't like what Jody wrote did that and moved his posting back to 1960....LOL ..so it would never show up here again.

I figured out a way to move threads manually.
1. Sign into the author page
2. Click on "entries"
3. Click on the specific entry you wish to update. (You have to be the original author)
4. Scroll to the bottom of the page to the box
"Authored On"
5. Change the date
Example: 2007-05-12 would need to be changed to 2007-10-08 to put it at the top for today.
6. Click Save

Portland Fan, well it will be interesting if anything is said about it. If he deleted it himself, that's one thing. If someone else did...I think that would deserve more of an explanation from the administrators or whoever the censorer of the blog is.

would have to be either Jody or the administrator who deleted it, right? I'm guessing it was Jody but not sure why. I'll bet he decided it was worded a little strongly. Maybe he will post a comment here and explain the reasons to us if he did remove it himself. I have a printed copy of it though.

Portland Fan -- Yes, earlier this morning I read Jody's post ! It was a long paragraph that was explaining about the beer permit and the bar you're talking about. This morning it was at the top of the blog....I've looked again and I don't see it here !!

DebraP - Yes that would be nice if they would sort in that manner, I did notice the ALL About Football thread worked it's way back to the top of the page, not sure how that happened but sure would like to know.
Portland Fan - I too saw the thread you are referring to, not sure where it went though!

I have mentioned this before but did not receive an answer. Don't know if this is possible but it would be nice if a topic could jump to the head of the line whenever it gets a reply. This way the replies would get read instead of getting lost way down the line.

Did anyone else see Jody's post earlier about someone applying for a beer permit at the old "zoo bar" location? Am I just overlooking it or was it removed from the blog?

The only problem I see with the invitation to open a new topic is that as you scan through to see what the topic are, it isn't always on the main page just what discussion you are jumping into. Wish there was some way to add the topic later on as things develop. Other than that, I think it's worked out great.

Judy - Like you said, there is nothing to be done about the topics falling off the main blog page . . . or for that matter, whether or not people stay on topic. Around town acts as a catch-all for whatever people want to comment on and provides ideas for "topic specific" threads.
Either way, you aren't going to be able to please everyone. I'd keep it the way it is right now.
