How about my Wildcats digman? The best win for UK since I've been alive.
Posted by: Daniel Suddeath at September 18, 2007 02:56 PM
i'il check it out murry.
why cant someone start a "fire the beaver" post?
gosh knows it would generate a lot of discussion. but i guess that would be too controversal for the "everthing in portland is beautiful" website.
why arent we allowed to just say whats on our minds?? fire beaver cleaver!!!!!
Posted by: digman at September 17, 2007 06:25 AM
Hey digman, you should post on CoachT.com, the best Tennessee high school football message board on the web! Not a lot of Portland presence on there. Your opinions would be greatly welcomed!!!!
Posted by: murray at September 17, 2007 12:21 AM
the s.e.c. rules!
a lot of good upsets also this week.
auburn, who i cant stand lost.
louisville lost, thats good.
ucla lost thats good.
can we all collectivly hope u.s.c. loses next week?couldn,t believe when i heard mississippi actually beat auburn that should bust them way down in the polls where they belong.
murry sorry about the loss, but you're right about fulmer, he should have been gone 2 years ago but i dont share your optimism about this being his last year, they're too stubborn.
oh yeah, good job bama!
now on to the issue of beaver cleaver.
look, you have to understand that perry was forced out because he wasnt a yes man. he was forced out by members of the quarterback club that had clout and want certain players to get gametime, perry didnt go along, thus he wins games elsewhere. perry got tired of these nimrods trying to run his show. he was winning!!
the beaver is doing just what he is told to do and is the yes man they wanted. these same kids get to play week after week even though they lose miserably. understand; the beaver is not really a coach he is a tool that is beholden to others with clout that put him where he is. how else do you explain that when they are 20 points behind in the 4rth quarter in some games there is no change in lineup? wouldnt this be the time to check out other tallent under pressure? but no, the beaver wont allow that! let me be clear its not the kids fault. if they mixed it up some of the kids playing now might just have some good luck and win if some of the kids that arent allowed to play were allowed by the beaver to play.yes man beaver cleaver.

Digman, I love ya man, but you got one thing wrong in your last comment. Bever don't take direction from anyone..... Ask any parent who has ever tried to confront him about the lack of play their kid is getting. Oh, and someone made a comment about "it didn't matter if they win or lose as long as the kids are having fun" well guess what, they aren't having any fun. If you had seen their faces after the Clarksville game, you would know what I mean.
Posted by: fred at September 16, 2007 06:33 AM
as far as beaver cleaver goes, he plays only the kids the members of the quarterback club tells him to play, or else. golly gee wally way to lose another one.

Hey digman....I bow to you my friend. We got it handed to us by those Gators (not that even the orange nation wasn't expecting it anyway). Fulmer started his farewell tour today, and it will end in KY in November. Can't wait to hear his excuses on tomorrow's coach's show... They stink in so many aspects of the game. Poor preparation, you name it...gonna be a long season. However,I just want you to know, that when I am not cheering for my beloved Vols, I ALWAYS pull for the SEC when they battle other conferences. People said for years that the ACC was better than the SEC. Now they say the PAC-10 is. I pulled for Florida in last years Championship game because they represented the SEC. Many of my Vols friends did as well.
As far as Kentucky...congrats Daniel. This will probably be the year they drop the streak against TN...
Regardless of our differences ya'll....I AM JUST ENJOYING ALL THIS FOOTBALL!!!!!!
Let's go have a cold one!!!!!!!!!
PS...What's up with Notre Dame?....not to mention Auburn? ....LOL
Posted by: Murray at September 16, 2007 12:25 AM
hey murry, how 'bout them no.1 GATORS?
that was a true butt-kickin'.
GO GATORS!!!!!
that should drop tenn. deservingly out of the top 30 where fulmer belongs. tenn's season is over courtousy of FLOFIDA.39 point win!!!

Portland football in disarray. I love it. Roger Perry used to run the score up against lesser foes back in the day when he and his Panthers were in their prime. Now he is gone, but other teams haven't forgotten....2-10 since last year ....not bad P-town!!!! Hope you enjoy losing!!!
Posted by: Johnny Facemask at September 14, 2007 03:03 AM
As far as our local team and coaching staff - what does it say when your left with only 4 seniors on the team. This bunch of seniors if had still been playing together could be a team to be reckoned with!!! 4 seniors...not much left for leadership under the coaching staff. When your junior and senior players are told at the begining of the season last year that they shouldn't worry about playing - coaches had big ideas for the freshmen and upcoming freshman to have a Championship team come 08....not much to want to play for if your coaches are overlooking your key players for leadership on the field.

Hey guys,
I just wanted to make sure I understood what I was reading. There is actually a movement in the area to get rid of the Portland football coach?
Why? It is only high school football and it really (truthfully) doesn't mean a whole lot in the big scheme of things. If the kids are enjoying themselves, isn't that the most important thing?
Some things to consider before you push for the coach to be fired,
1. What kind of talent does the coach have to work with? Would any of the Portland players start on other teams in the region? Remember, the Portland coach can't recruit players. He has to play with the cards he's been dealt and if you check the history, I bet you would find talent at the high school level comes in cycles.
2. The coach doesn't get out on the field and play. He can prepare his players, but he can't make them make that tackle, read the guard or plug a whole in the line.
The players have to shoulder some of the burden for the record.
There are a lot of extinuating circumstances that help decide the win-loss record of a football team.

Brian madman Cox, I loved him. He was there only good defensive player for a long time.
Posted by: Daniel Suddeath at September 12, 2007 12:07 AM
Daniel, Believe me I was a BIG Dolfan, lived in S. Fl many years, but I am a true TITAN fan now, thru good & bad. Do you remember when Brian Cox played for the Dolpins? I have a huge blown up pic of him when he flipped off Buffalo at Buffalo. LOL

Judy, you have joined the dark side. Come back to being a friend of the fin.

I think someone looked at the navigation bar at the top of this topic and thought that was the name of the thread (I like my church because...)not realizing it was a search tool instead of a title.
Posted by: MDL at September 11, 2007 03:46 PM
HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD WE GIVE THE COACH, ITS BE TO LONG ALREADY .LOOK AT LAST YEARS SEASON.WE NEED TO LOOK FOR A NEW COACH NOW.TO THE YOUNG GUYS (FOOTBALL TEAM) KEEP UP YOUR HARD WORK.
Posted by: panther at September 11, 2007 02:01 PM
HOW LONG DOES A LOSING STREAK NEED TO GO BEFORE THE GETS FIXED? I THINK IT TIME TO DO SO.PUT OUT A SIGN FOOTBALL COACH FOR HIRE
Posted by: panther at September 11, 2007 01:53 PM
Daniel - I too was searching for where in this thread it was started about "I like my church because" DA - please re-read, I don't see it! I know on one of the posts someone requested that a topic be started about area churches which was done. Oh Well, have a good day! Also Daniel, you are a Fish Fan!! Used to Love the Dolphins until TITANS came to town!
Posted by: Judy at September 11, 2007 01:42 PM
I thought we were just having a friendly conversation about the pigskin? As for the Packers, they looked decent on Sunday, but I'm a Dolphins man myself. As for Coach Bever, I think you should wait a couple of weeks because it's hard to bounce back after playing such an emotional game against White House the week before. Plus their qb is banged up. But unless my eyes are failing me, this thread didn't start with anything about church.
Posted by: Daniel Suddeath at September 11, 2007 01:15 PM
Although I must say, the mentality is exactly the same: "If you don't agree with the church (or football team) I choose, you need to change your way of thinking. And until you do, I can call you any name in the book, because you are ignorant. My way is the ONLY right way."
Posted by: DA at September 11, 2007 11:41 AM
Hey, Did anyone notice that at the beginning of this thread, it says, "I like my church because.." and the topic immediately goes to football?
That kinda says it all, doesn't it?
Posted by: DA at September 11, 2007 11:37 AM
Anyone out there like the Packers? Even if they are having yet another crappy season. Once a Packer fan, always a Packer fan.
Posted by: hello at September 11, 2007 10:55 AM
WHAT HAPPEN TO THE FIREMIKE.COM POST? WHY WAS IT REMOVED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT.I GUESS THEY KNOW MIKE REAL GOOD.WILL ONE OF THE PAPERS IN TOWN TAKE POLL? I THINK THEY SHOULD,I DO THINK THE YOUNG MEN ON THE TEAM IS GIVING 100% BUT ARE THE COACHES LETTING EVERYONE ON TEAM SHOW THEIR TALENT I DON'T THINK SO!! WHEN YOU ARE LOSING A GAME SOMETHING IS NOT WORKING SO WHY NOT TRY OTHER PLAYERS GIVE THEM TIME IN THE GAME.THEY MAY GIVE YOU A TD.I HEAR THAT SOME OF THE FOOTBALL PLAYERS ARE READY TO WALK OUT DUE TO COACHES ATTITUDES
Posted by: panther at September 10, 2007 08:42 PM
Michelle-I would be happy to support UT as soon as they get all their players out of jail...lol

G.B. If there is something in particular you would like discussed please post your request and one of us will get that going for you.
Anyway hope everyone is enjoying the RAIN!!

Doesn't "GB" posting the same thing in every topic in which he doesn't like the direction it's going in qualify as "spam"?

I have two favorite teams, UK and whoever is playing Tennessee :)
Posted by: Daniel Suddeath at September 10, 2007 08:37 AM
Murray- blah, blah, blah
Digman said he liked them, they just don't do any good. So why are you ranting? Can't a guy like a team that doesn't win all the time, or is that too much like being a loyal fan? And another thing: so what if he's a Florida fan as well. Personally, I rally for the Vols AND Bama, except when they play each other, then it's the Vols all the way baby! So Digman, even though I'm a ga8r ha8r, to each his own.
Posted by: cantstandcrybabies at September 10, 2007 07:23 AM
digman, is from Miss (or so he claims), but since Miss st and Ole Miss "never do any good", he doesn't cheer for them. He likes whoever is winning at the moment. He likes Florida, according to his other posts, yet he is from Mississippi...way to cheer for the home team. You are the only one with a delusional view of Vols fans...YOU yourself only cheer for whoever wins.
You are from Mississippi, but since none of their teams win, you feel the need to thrash the Vols.
As far as Vols fans go, we don't blame the refs, only Portland Panther fans do that....digman hides behind a screen name.
Posted by: Murray at September 10, 2007 02:27 AM
no problem. i cant stand the portland leader.
for years corruption in this town went not unnoticed but unannounced until we got a real newspaper.a whistle-blower was what this town needed.i got 1 question, why doesnt the progressive change its publication day to tuesday?
that would put the leader out of commission.
the only reason anybody buys the rag is because it comes out a day early and small town folk are hungry for some news.
as far as freds comments on football, i am from pascagoula mississippi down near biloxi so i like ole miss and miss state also, they just never do any good.as far as the vols go, i cant stand them.
tenn. vol fans are the sorriest loosers in exsistence. have you ever noticed they never just lose a game, there is always a bad call or the ref
cheated they never just say ok we lost.i take it from terry's post that auburn lost. thats always a good thing, another team that truly sux.

Speaking of college football,my son made sportcenter this morning. He is a midshipman at Auburn University and when the South Florida team was celebrating in the back of the endzone he was on the front row (with a stunned look on his face).
Posted by: Terry George at September 9, 2007 08:37 AM
You posted a little early Digman, that's now two butt-kickins in a row for Michigan. They must be going after our title. As far as "the head coach getting canned before the end of the season", that's like saying Portland's head coach will get canned before the end of the season. I've never been able to get into Vandy ball, no need to talk about them. I'd rather talk about Bama or Miss State than Vandy. Seems to me when the Vol's play good everybody is happier, don't you think? The cookout's are more fun, less road rage, people smiling and waving at each other, have you noticed that too? I'm a traditional kinda guy, I like to see my breath while I'm grillin brauts. Enough of the mushy stuff, I need some more coffee.
Posted by: fred at September 9, 2007 06:28 AM
i cant stand vandy myself. the only reason that they dont join the ivy league is because of the revenue that is generated in the best conference the S.E.C.
as for the mayor stopping the DEstuction company water supply, thank your lucky stars for the progressive. we used to only have the leader, that prints only what they are told to.
Posted by: digman at September 9, 2007 03:45 AM
Digman--all I can say is go big blue, this is our year. For the record, I also loved seeing Vandy go down at home yesterday. People were picking them to be the surprise team in the sec this year but you have to beat average teams at home in the sec to have any chance. I think Michigan's coach gets canned before the end of the year and LSU's coach takes his place
Posted by: Daniel Suddeath at September 8, 2007 10:53 PM
I'm not Fred and I don't know anything about the Portland Football team, but I do know that I read in the Portland Progressive this week that the Mayor gave up the water deal with the gas pipeline company -- yee ha!! It was a real sore spot with me -- my biggest concern was the fact that we were told the water supply was getting extremely low, yet here this big company was watering "dust." I understand that commercial companies need water to function, but they do not need to water their landscaping any more than the rest of us...the restrictions imposed on citizens vs. commercial businesses should be re-vamped and priorities re-set! Hopefully, we will get some much needed rain to ease the burden for all of us...we also need a DAM! Politics are definitely $$ motivated...we poor folks don't have a chance!
Posted by: gw at September 8, 2007 08:20 PM
HEY FRED, are you out there? lets talk some football! what do you think about that michigan butt-kickin' last weekend? what about the volunteer cremation?hollar at me!
