Festivals and stuff like that would be great, especially after how successful the Strawberry Parade was this year.

I was refering to small bussiness owners who don't have stores....

I have been wanting to give my ideas about Portland having more events, but I didn't know who to approach or even if they would take my ideas seriously. I would love to be involved with planning/organizing some of these events. I firmly believe it would be a major asset to Portland if we would hold more family friendly events. Everyone knows what the Strawberry Festival does for Portland & its' citizens.

An Octoberfest would be really really nice....I'd look forward to that.

Portland needs to have an Octoberfest like they have in Gallatin each year. Have been to those a few times and they are nice.

Portland could also have concerts in the park, show movies in the park, or have dances. There is so much that could be done to liven this town up a little bit.

I would also like to see neighborhoods have "block" parties. That is such a good way to meet your neighbors and make new friends.

I would also like to see more activities thru out the year for families and the like in this town, strawberry fest for the spring, have one before school goes back for summer, then something in the fall. Don't know about winter unless it is held inside.

As for the businesses I know they do atleast one advertised open house where all the businesses are asked to participate, some do others don't, I want to say this is around Christmas time, I could be wrong though. They do have the Highland Harvest craft show in November for small crafting businesses to show their wares, been there a few times & participated a couple years, as a crafter they have it on the wrong weekend as it conflicts with another major show close by or the Nashville Flea Market weekend if not both.

I love the idea....

I was just thinking.....I wish Portland held more family-friendly events or festivals year round. My family & I love going to the Strawberry Festival...I even had a booth there this year. Also, last year we went to the family fun night held at the middle school during Red Ribbon Week & our kids had a blast!!. I think it would be a great idea to have an event every couple of months. Also, some where local small bussiness owners could set up & showcase their products. If the Chamber has their hands full...maybe they could apoint a committee of parents, small bussiness owners, etc to organize such events. What does everyone think?

Michelle,
You can send a donation to the Montessori School (their address is listed in the schools section of www.portlandtn.com). Since the school is doing the trike a thon there at their school (across the street from the High School) and due to the age of some of the students, they are requesting a flat donation instead of a per lap, but anything is appreciated. This is truly for a great cause and it would be great for any help the school could get to help St. Jude's (are you listening Daniel??? article idea! - hahaha)

Wow, Congrats Corey!! Enjoy, you've earned it!

SG- I love it! A tike-a-thon? How cool! I hope they raise a ton of money. How can someone sponsor a triker?

Just wanted to let everyone know that Portland Montessori School is holding a "trike-a-thon" on July 18th benefiting St. Jude's Children's Hospital. If you would like to make a donation to this wonderful cause, all checks should be made payable to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
thanks!

In Corey's first news conference he said he was glad his best friend was also drafted by the Timberwolves so that they could continue sharing the same cell phone plan - I have a feeling they're both screamin- "CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW!!"

According to this evenings news, Corey Brewer is now a multi-millionaire, signed a 4.5 Million $$$$ Contract! WAY to GO Corey!
