Blog Discussion Topics

Asking for your idea's for topics of discussion.

I know with the warmer weather we find less time to be blogging and when hashing over the same things over and over threads have a tendancy to go dormant. At times like these it is important to have fresh ideas to keep the interest going on the site.

I will be more than glad to start a topic that YOU would like to see addressed, Give me your thoughts below.

Thanks - Judy

You know, I took in a stray dog out of the goodness of my heart. It was very sick, and I put a lot of money into this dog to get it healthy again. My gripe is my neighbors. I bought a new house, and love it. But there is no trees. It is in a new subdivision. The only shade is in front of my house. I have to keep the dog on a chain, the food and water stays full. We treat that dog great. Someone has way too much time on there hands I guess, because they have a problem with my dog, they called animal control and stated that I have neglected my dog. It has been hot, and too hot for me and my girls to go outside and play with her,but we make sure she is well taken care of. I can not believe someone would stoop as low as that to get someone in trouble. I am a single parent, and trying to make ends meet. I do not cause no problems in the neighborhood, my kids are always right here in the front yard, and I am very respectful of others. I don't put my dog in some small cage or keep it inside where is very unsanitary, and I mean where the animal is going in and out all day long. My dog is on a 50 foot cord and has enough room to run and play and get in the shade that I can provide for her. I just don't understand why people have to put their nose into other people's business. I can see if my dog was starving or in need of water, but there was noting wrong. Even animal control said everything was fine, just to make sure the dog had plenty of water. And like he said there was water and food. And after the animal control left, I felt so downgraded and violated. I cried and cried that some one could stoop so low. But I did notice the guy across the street , the one I took this dog off his hands for the main reason, he did not have a job and keeps four cats in his house, he pulls out of the driveway this morning, stops in front of my house rolls down the passenger side window to thump his cigarette butt in front of my house. I have been nothing but nice to these people. I mind my own business. We are quiet, but he on the other hand, cranks up his hard rock to where the whole neighborhood can hear his racket, and not only that but he waters his lawn, here we are in the middle of a drought. A warning out saying not to use water in that way, thumping butts which is littering. I think to myself, surly he is not the one who called dog control on me. a couple of the neighbors keep their dogs inside, which I am sorry, either keep it in or keep it out. I mean let it out to potty or what ever, but anyways one of my neighbors leave three of her dogs outside all the time. Two of my neighbors has one of those small cages. Now to me especially if there is more then one dog, that is cruelty. The sad thing is both of these neighbors has a fenced in yard, and they are gonna stick their dogs in these small cages. I don't know who it was that called animal control on me for no reason, I wished they could have been man enough or woman enough to knock on my door. That was enough for me to know they lied. I type up a letter for everyone on my block, and behind me. I told them they must be doing something wrong their selves to want to through the distraction on me. I believe in karma. What goes around will come around. Trust me! Well I feel great now that I got to vent. Any thoughts or suggestions please email me at nashgal33@aol.com

How about some opinions about tonight's public hearing on the proposed moving of City Hall out to the Lawnlite Building. Anybody have any thoughts on that? The police dept. would move to the present City Hall building if that's what the Council decides.

Hey Michelle Hanners...It is so great, huh? He , digman, makes me smile out loud as well. I hate liberals, gays, and environmentalists too! That makes me just like digman. I am so sick of the vile speaking, anti-American liberals like former Vice-President Al Gore.

What's everyone complaining about? The soldiers signed up for what they are going through, and gas prices are very reasonable. Liberals are no good. George W. Bush is the ultimate American! Thanks digman, you are so smart!!!

I, too want to start a blog about left vs. right, as you suggested, as we are the smartest people in the world!!!

In memory of Jerry Falwell

Judy --

How about a blog topic called "Front Page" --where we can give our opinions on the articles that appear on the Front pages of each week's Portland Leader and the Progressive.

I have a comment on what mack said yesturday. I totally agree. I think it is terrible that one, the school pimp out the kids and two the parents, for what ever reason, tell them its okay to go door-to-door. My father never let us do this growning up and was as outraged as we are now. I know alot of parents HAVE to work. Alot of us think things like this will never happen to us. Not in our sleepy little town... It can and it will. I hope we all take this to heart and watch our children and our neighbors children like hawks! Maybe use a little more common sense or at least be more terrified of a very real possibilities that evil is everywhere, maybe even a cross the street....

What bothers me most, and since so many on here like to discuss the safety of our children, is how people let their young children walk around their subdivisions by themselves at all hours of the day. I mean, I see young girls who can't be but 8 or 9 years old, walking by themselves in our neighborhood. Given all the recent headlines about kidnappings and attempted kidnappings, I find this unacceptable.

Or how about parents who send their kids, usually under 11-12 years of age, door to door, unsupervised, to sell things, such as school fundraising items...HELLO!!...do you even know whose houses they are going to? You are sending them out to go up to COMPLETE strangers' doorsteps!!! And you are not watching them!!! Someone spoke below about finding out about a convicted sex offender living in their neigborhood. This is why you supervise your kids, instead of letting them wander about....Parents wise up!!

I realize this is not exactly school related, but it is about the saftey of our children, so I am sharing...A new concern has arose in my neighborhood and I would like some feedback..I recently shared with a neighbor that according to the TN Sex offender wesbite, we have a sex offender that has moved into our subdivison..I let her know this because she lives directly across the street and has a 4 year old little girl, she was very shocked and upset, but was glad to know the information, she passed it along to a few of her friends who also live in the neighborhood who have children as well and I have had two women come to my door and thank me for letting them know and one lady encouraged me to start a neighborhood watch and inform the homeowners in our subdivison of this person, who was charged in 2000 with statutory rape and 2x attempted aggravated sexual battery..my husband is completely against this and says I should stay out of it and mind my own business and that the man deserves his privacy, but I think I did the right thing sharing this information...do any of you have a neighborhood watch for sex offenders? how does it work? do you think it would be a good idea to start one?

I think would be cool to blog about "Does anyone know how to ...?" questions

Posted by: Michelle Hanners at March 29, 2007 04:39 PM

I would like to get feedback from anyone who has a SCHOOL SAFETY CONCERN that they would like addressed and/or SUGGESTIONS for fixing a problem.

There is going to be a MEETING in the PORTLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL AUDITORIUM on APRIL 12th at 7PM to address our community's concerns.

I urge EVERYONE who has a stake in the safety of our children to MAKE A SPECIAL EFFORT TO ATTEND.

This is your opportunity to BE HEARD!
If you CAN'T attend, or if you do attend but simply don't feel comfortable getting up in front of a crowd, post your concerns here, or WRITE THEM DOWN and I will be more than happy to present them for you.

ALL questions and suggestions are welcome. All we ask is to help us make this as productive as possible by refraining from PERSONAL attacks.

Regardless of personal opinions about individuals, bottom line, we need to figure out WHAT the problems are and find SOLUTIONS. Our children depend on ALL OF US to make sure they're safe.

Hope to see(and hear) you there!
