Problems & Concerns with Portland Scools
I am posting this topic as requested by Michelle, she seems to have a sincere interest in trying to get the citizens, Parents and Students involved tackling some of the problems that present themselves in our neighborhood schools.
All I ask is that we think about the kids first before entering your concerns on the internet. If you feel that by posting a concern here may be giving more information than needs to be public thus risking further our childrens safety don't post it, bring it to the meeting, or Michelle, or the school board.
Maybe the parents of children in the schools can get them involved here too, after all they deal with it every day. Please, we are talking about children, let's protect them and not refer to them by name.
Other than that, go for it, let's be productive & Happy posting!

I know with the warmer weather we find less time to be blogging and when hashing over the same things over and over threads have a tendancy to go dormant. At times like these it is important to have fresh ideas to keep the interest going on the site.

Your local media outlets; The Portland Leader, The Portland Progressive, WQKR AM.1270, and the Gallatin News Examiner, are hosting The 2007 Political Forum for the four Alderman at Large seats on the Portland City Council. The forum will be televised on Comcast Channel 3, Thursday April 5, 2007, at 6:30 p.m. It will also be broadcasted on AM.1270 WQKR.
We are asking for questions from the public to be asked at the forum and what better place than the Portland Blog!
Please keep the questions generic, and not specific to any one candidate. No personal attacks.
We know the bloggers in town have plenty of questions they would like answered.

Portland Middle School Crisis
I'm sure everyone has heard by now about the 8th grader at the Portland Middle School getting beat up because his attacker wanted to join a "gang" that was being formed. Where were the teachers when this happened? Are the teachers so scared of the students that they will not step in when needed or do they just not care?
Is it time for a new principal? Does the school have security patrols? ARE YOUR CHILDREN SAFE? These are just some of the questions that parents need to address to the school board.
This is NOT the first time something like this has happened at the middle school.
It's time for a BIG change at the Portland Middle School before someone gets killed.
Lets' hear from the mothers, fathers, and grandparents that have a child(ren) in the middle school.

New Portland "Radio Blog"
I just wanted to let everyone know about the newest project I have undertaken for the radio station here in Portland. Lee, the manager of the station, wanted more local broadcasting and has asked me to host a political talkshow. It began this week, and we are talking about many of the topics you discuss here on this blog. So I wanted to invite everyone to tune in tp 1270AM on weekdays from 4-6PM and express your opinions. I have envisioned this to be a type of "radio blog" to give people a chance to express their opinions and get discussions started regarding major issues. Hope to talk to you soon.
