The GOOD things I like about living in Portland are!!

I am starting this post out of response to an article I read in this weeks Leader where a gentleman wrote about how the blog is filled with such negativity about our town.

I'm not saying I agree with everything he said, everyone is entitled to their opinions and many see things differently than others.

Sooooooooooooooo, lets lighten up this post with all the good / positive things you like about our town.

1. The people are friendly
2. Good schools.
3. I only have to drive 6 miles to Franklin Wal-Mart and buy my groceries.
4. I only have to drive 6 miles to get name brand shoes at Shoe Show in Franklin, KY.
5. I only have to drive 6 miles to eat at Capt. D's, Taco Bell, Wendy's, and KFC in Franklin, KY
6. Nice sit-down restaraunts await me just around 15 miles up the road in Gallatin, or 25 miles on either side of me in Rivergate and Bowling Green.

I guess the best overall thing is location, location, location. There are just so many choices in such close proximity to my home here in Portland, TN!!!

portland would be a much better place if we could just nudge the place just out of the stone age.

What's not to love about Portland? I know I hear people complain about various things but these are the things I moved from Nashville to get away from. I love the small town feeling, the privacy of my big ole' piece of property I got for 1/3 the price of the same place in Nashville, and the kids at my daughter's new school are above and beyond better than the meanies at her old school. Portland is awesome just the way it is.

I love the fact that Councilmen Callis, Coker, and I don't always agree on topics such as alcohol etc.., but we're still friends. We may not always agree, but we agree to disagree.

No Particular order, but here are a few reasons I like Portland.

1. The recreation department offers plenty of activities and parks for the enjoyment of our children.

2. Small enough you know a lot of people, but big enough these people don't know everything there is to know about you.

3. Location- Close to KY, Rivergate, and Gallatin

4. Not a lot of traffic in and around town, yes we have truck problem, but try to navigate in Hendersonville, Gallatin, and Nashville any afternoon around 5pm. Miserable!

5. Most people are so friendly and socialable

6. Best schools around, I had more trouble at Portland High School with schoolwork then I did at Tennessee Tech University. The teachers really prepare you for the future.

7. Small town spirit, nothing like going to sports events from Pee Wee up to High School teams. The community really backs the teams up.

There are many more, but those are the first that popped up:)

I like that its close to bowling green and rivergate. I like that it is small and usually quite. I like that you can run all your in-town errans in about 30 mins.

I love Portland. I have lived here about 8 years now and I will never leave. I grew up in Goodlettsville, TN and I still work in Madison. Though the drive may seem long for some, it gives me time to unwind. When I get off that interstate and say hello to the cows in the field with my 2 & 3 year old...I am so glad to call this place home now. The one thing that first impressed me about this town is how almost everyone you come into contact with here is friendly. I can go to Freds and I will have had a conversation with at least 2 or 3 people that I don't even know by the time I leave. Even our pizza guy from Pizza Hut is friendly!

I love this town because of the Portland Progressive(haha)

Portland still has "small town" feel with friendly people. Love the parades, carnivals and of course, THE STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL! Not to mention the strawberries themselves!

The men are strong.

The women are good looking.

The children are above average.

The schools are top-rated.

The churches are friendly and accessible.

Hobbits could live here and be happy.

Some of the things I like about living in Portland are;

I only have to go thru 2 traffic lights, travel a two lane road and drive with about a dozen other vehicles to get to the grocery store in 5 minutes and you rarely have to wait in line once you get there.

My favorite places to eat are just a hop skip and jump away, Cracker Barrell for breakfast, 5Chef's for lunch, and MoMo's for Supper.

Property here is really affordable & you get alot for your money compared to other areas. Open land is still plenty where the cows roam and wild deer feed in the back yard.

The line at the Post Office at christmas time is only about 6 people long and not 60.

The phone book is small, only about 1/2" thick compared to a 3" phone book in my prior home town 12 yrs ago definately a space saver in the drawer. :)

Hubby says after driving 1+ hrs to and from work every day it's nice to be out of the hussle and bussle when he's home.
