Hello,
My name is Rachel and I am looking to keep children in my home . I have 20 years of experience and two children of my own .Being a stay at home mom for nine years made me realize that working with children is what I was put on this earth to do .Would love to talk with anyone in need of child care in this area .

I have to diagree about the Montessori Academy
Everything looked okay from the outside but the "house" is not even big enough for a family of 4, let alone a group of children. It was very messy and unorganized. Not the kind of place I would want my children in trying to learn. Unless you are teaching how to thrive in chaos.
They should close down, hire a cleaner and tidy up the place. Then maybe add a few more sq feet to the building.
I would not suggest this school, unless of coarse you want your kid to feel right at home because your house is in similar disarray.

There seems to be a HUGE shortage of good sitters in and around Portland. Unfortunatly for my situation traditional daycare is not an option. I am a single mom and my job requires more than the normal 9-5. If anyone can offer any help or suggestions....
I have put numerous ads in the Portland Leader, called every church within a 30 mile radius, put flyers in all the mailboxes in my subdivision, checked and posted on the grocery store boards, ask everyone I know-which isn't many since I've only lived here since November-and quite a few people I didn't know-for referals and/or ideas.
I even posted here right before I moved to Portland. Thought I would try again...
Anyone got any ideas???? I'm fixin' to have a major panic attack....LOL
Thanks,
Kim S.

How many people would like a new day care that would provide care for both preschool (6 week old to pre-k and school age care) at the same location?

I have had my 3 year old at the Montessori Academy since summer last year and their curriculum is wonderful. The rate is $420 per month (or $105 per week) - lunch is not provided. Very comparable to the daycares in the area, but I feel the education she is getting is wonderful. They also focus on independence and manners as well.

I plan to sent my child to the Portland Montessori Academy when she is old enough this summer. Of course I will research all my options and pick which one I think is best. Unfortunatly, It will be a short search since there is not alot to choose from in Portland.

I have found that a state certified child care center is the way to go. That way you know the employees have been through a background check. You don't have that luxury with an individual. They could be a horrible person, but they don't act like that in front of you. You only know what they act like when you pick up and drop off your child, and what your child tells you about them. My child never wanted to go to his babysitter and I never knew why. It wasn't until he started school that he told me, and I was shocked to hear why. I was furious! I am so glad my child is not under her care anymore.

I'm going to tell you about the BEST daycare in Portland city limits. It's called TLC and is located in the Evergreen Subdivision. She does this at her home and has even built on to her families house to allow for this. Goes by all states rules and laws and is the cleanist I've ever been in hands down. No problems here!!

I worked at a local church daycare for a VERY short time. I was amazed and so disappointed at how they treated the children there, I refused to abide by their rules, they were unacceptable..I am so lucky that I do not have to send my child to daycare, but I will be enrolling him in Mckendrea's Preschool(I believe that is the spelling)They have wonderful activites and the staff seem well-educated and friendly. Good luck finidng a good daycare, they came few & in between!

I am unsure of how old your grandchild is, but my 3 year old attends Portland Montessori Academy and I can't say enough good things about their curriculum. They take ages 2 1/2 - 8th grade. Their fees aren't really higher than daycare and I feel the education she is getting is wonderful!
