Illiteracy.

I would like to see someone address it for Portland. I think it is a shame that many of our Portland students graduate after 12 years in the local system and not able to read rulers, tell time, balance a checkbook, spell, read maps, and so forth.

Hi! I am moving to Portland at the end of the month. I am a single mom of a 9yr old and I do occasionally overnight travel with my job. I am in need of a local person who is interested in after school care and occasional overnights.

My son will be attending JW Wiseman Elementary. He is a very bright(testing for accelerated programs at his school now) respectful, polite little boy~although he is a typical 9 yr old...lol

I do not know anyone in the area and have not had any luck locating any resources for a starting point. Any help or direction will be greatly appreciated.

Thank ya'll in advance for your help! :o)

Jennie, Is that just for water? I heat with gas so I am charged almost $10.00 a month during the summer when I don't use any gas. Usage "0". My utility bill runs around $80.00 a month in the summer. This includes water, sewage, trash pickup and gas. Last winter my highest bill was $340.00.
Yes, the water in Portland stinks!!!

I was just wondering if anpyone else has a problem with the quality and price of our water in Portland. I moved here 3 years ago from Portland and I could not believe how horrible the water smells and tastes. I have recently bought me a home here and had to start paying my water bill and i was horrified when i received my first water bill for 58.00. I am out of the city limits and I am on septic so i can't understand why the bill is so much each month. I won't even drink this water and I am having to fork out 60.00 a month just to do laundry and take showers!!!

What if anything are the schools in Portland doing to protect our children?? I say a prayer every morning when I drop off my grandson that he will be safe.

I would like to see someone do an investigation into the dog pound in Portland. When you drive by there is one one there and I do not see any air vents or fans for the animals. This is too big an opertion for just one person.

I haven't heard a thing about the immigration problem we have here in Portland or doesn't anyone think it's a problem?

All dealerships or car lots are different. Did you try to settle with the cat lot that sold it to you? Also was it a buy here pay here lot? There's two sides to ever story but everyone know's that by now.

The library! Our library has a great staff and thousands of books are checked out each month. However, it is far too small to hold enough books, provide enough research space, and host enough story hours, Spanish, GED and like events for a town that has grown as much as Portland has.
