Early Voting in Portland

vote1.jpg

I stopped by the Community Center in Richland Park three times (1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.) Monday to try to vote in the early-voting period in Portland. Something seemed to be terribly amiss. I gave up all three times because the line didn't seem to be moving. From what I can gather, all (or most) of the computers they used to check in voters were down most of the day.

It seems to me that Sumner County owes Portland the courtesy of adding an additional day in Portland to make up for the problems Monday. The five hours and four voting machines they allocated for a city of 10,000+ seems very, very low -- especially with check-in problems.

How were other people's experiences?

We cant be complaining about having to wait to vote. 10 yrs ago you could barely get anyone to vote. Now it is great to see so many people out and voting. It shows thats everyone cares who represents and how they are represented.

I got there a little after five yesterday afternoon and I couldn't even get in the door. A lady working there told me then it would be about an hour wait. I agree another day would be a good idea. However, it seems like wherever you go to try and early vote the lines are long. I tried to go on my lunch hour at the courthouse and the line was almost out the door.

I got there around 1:30 and was told there was at least an hours wait. I had my 5 year old grandson with me and didn't want to stand out in the cold that long so I left. I didn't bother going back.
