Fake Blog Entries

Please keep in mind that this is an unmoderated blog.

The vast majority of postings to the blog are legitimate postings from sincere people. A very, very, very small percentage of people, however, will post fake stuff to the blog. There is nothing to stop someone from posting a comment and signing it "George W. Bush" or "Queen Elizabeth" or whatever.

The reason the blog is unmoderated is twofold: 1) we don't want to censor legitimate comments, and 2) by having an unmoderated blog, comments are visible to the public immediately (as opposed to waiting hours or days for somebody to approve the comment).

We regularly check the blog for comments posted by automated spambots. (Spambots are robots that post links to web sites that sell meds or porn or whatever.) We typically delete 20 of these a day.

On the rare occasion when we discover a comment that has been signed with someone else's name, we delete that comment too.

This situation is, unfortunately, true in all means of communication. Just because you saw it on TV, or read it in a newspaper, or saw it on this blog, doesn't mean it's true. Just because you receive an e-mail from "xyz" doesn't mean that "xyz" really sent it.

Thanks.
Charlie
