AT&T

All of the wire services are reporting that AT&T purchased BellSouth today. I wonder what, if any, effect this will have on services available to Tennessee residents. I would certainly like to see some form of Broadband Internet made available to everyone in the state.

Talk about things coming around!!! In the 1970's BellSouth WAS part of AT&T (remember "Ma Bell?), then the Carter Administration went after AT&T, claiming they were a monopoly and forcing them to divest and sell all of their regional phone companies like BellSouth. My dad was a lifelong employee of AT&T and that was a very difficult time for them. He used to especially get mad when the new "upstart" companies like MCI and Sprint would advertise their state-of-the-art fiber optic networks when they were in reality leasing the use of AT&T's existing fiber optic networks. I know my dad's in heaven grinning at this turn of events!

On another note, it sure would be nice to get DSL where I live. BellSouth does not offer it and ComCast does not come to our part of the street, althought they seem to be at both ends of it!!!

When I first got cable internet it went down all the time to.. I kept calling and complaining and they finally came and fixed it and now it hardly ever goes down. I heard on the news that the merger might mean lower prices.....wait and see.

We used to live on the other side of Portland (west side) and got DSL through bellsouth, we recently moved to the East side of Portland and do not get DSL here. We had no other choice but to go to comcast cable which we hate...it is down way too much.

Hopefully we will get DSL over here through Bellsouth/AT&T or whatever it is or will be called. I much prefer the DSL over this high priced cable internet.
