How the Blog Works

approved.gif

Recently a blog author posted an article which has received a number of comments. One of the comments (by "Joe") was very negative.

The original blog author then posted a comment something like, "I approved the previous comment by Joe, but I started not to. ..."

Several people asked us about this. "Does he really have the authority to approve or disapprove comments about his original post?"

We would like to say that the original blog author is probably mistaken about his having approved the comment. There are only three people who have been designated webmasters on the Portland blog. Other authors (including the one discussed above) do not have the required access to approve or disapprove anybody's comment on any subject.

The webmasters periodically log into the blog where we read each comment one by one. We immediately delete comments placed by the spammers. (We got lots of comments from jerks who post links to web sites selling adult-oriented stuff. The spammers use automated programs to post to every blog they can find in the world.)

The other comments are read carefully. We do not edit comments. (If people can't spell, you know that when you read their post.) We do not delete comments unless they use profanity or advocate committing something illegal.) To date, the blog has had over 200 comments, and we have deleted exacty one (for profanity).

We think it is important that we do not censor the blog. That's what blogs are all about -- to discuss things, positive and negative.

Thank you.
