Frosty-Freeze-type Restaurant in Portland??
We all have been to the Frosty Freeze in Franklin, Kentucky. What if something just like that came here to Portland -- except with a place to eat inside on cold days? You will still have to walk to the window and order, and there would be seating outside as well. No glassware, all plastic. Would it be supported? I would like your input.
Keep in mind the menu would be like Frosty Freeze, the dairy dip style.
Thanks, Larry

I for one would love a place like O'Charley's, but that will never happen because of the liquor by the glass rule we have here in Portland. Something is seriously wrong with this town. Now Franklin, Ky is getting a Lowe's Home Improvement. What will that do to business here in Portland? We already have people traveling to Wal Mart for groceries because the price of groceries in Hills and Food Lion are outrageous, and to top it off with a sales tax is too much for most people to afford. I know this is off topic, but may as well air it here and now. Hills and Food Lion are terribly high with their items. I do a lot of comparison shopping, and I cannot blame people for driving to Franklin. I went to Hills to purchase my favorite brand of flour, and when I was in Franklin noticed that it was a dollar cheaper than what I paid at Hills for the same size bag. Add the tax and it is a ripoff. Same with gas, always cheaper in Franklin. This is why people go to Franklin to shop and fill up on gas. You do both in one day, and you are set.
As far as the Frosty Freeze, it would be great in the Summer months, but not the Winter months.

I think it would be wonderful to have a frosty freeze type in Portland! We do need things to bring families together after sport nights and I think it would do great business since the Panther Den is crowded alot of the time! The same place gets old after a while no matter what it is but we have many new people coming to the area that would love a place to go that's different! And about the other places in town, I feel that I can't ever get the correct order at Mcdonald's or I always have to drive up and wait on my food, whether it is an ice cream cone or whatever it may be. I know Tim myself and I also know that he is not there all day and all night, so they aren't as clean, respectful, and nice when he's not there. He does a great job and the employees do too as long as he is there! I am okay with a frosty freeze and my children would be too!

You say that we need to come together and support "them"
When Arby's came in to town they use and outside contractor for the remodel and the lawn service is from another town, how does one support something like this when they use and outside source, I wonder if the rest use local or so called outsource to another town..
And yet they are making a killing off us here.
I believe if you run a business here hire and contract local IF YOU can, after all the locals are what pay the bills and make the profit.

For what it is worth, after seeing the new places going in at Hwy 31W & i-65 in Franklin, I would really like to see Portland do some growing in a fun way, i.e. fun places for families, movie theater, something...we are going to miss the boat (and the revenue) that Franklin will be enjoying...whatever Portland's problems are with new places, we need to work together as a community to support them and encourage new growth...

Anything in Portland is good for the first week, then it goes down hill. If McDonalds is the best ran place in town doesn't say alot, half the time I ever go there the order is messed up, no matter how simple. Portland want never have any good places to eat, because you have the same faces at the new places, that where at the ones that went under.

Larry,
I think the whole idea of "frosty freeze" is a great idea! Like one of the other bloggers, I agree with this being somewhere we could go after a soccer or baseball game!
Hopefully this will pan out and we'll be able to get some yummy soft served dipping yummies!

I would have like to seen something different here, I thought that Arby's would be great but I found that the ol' burger king bunch was back.
My order was raw on the inside "chicken" then when I complain to one of the mangers they said OK. I for one will not be back the front may look clean but I wonder about the back.

A place like this would probably do great during the summer months but I don't think it would have enough customers during the winter to keep it open.

Well, it's kind of hard to say if there should be one. It would be nice, and as soon as I saw Frosty-Freeze I got excited and was all for it, but now that I have read some of the comments I kind of agree. It would be a bad idea. Yeah, for a little while it'll be a hit but then people would just kind of stop going and business wouldn't go up. I think we need a good breakfast place. I think we should STOP putting so much fast food up everywhere. Thanks!

Thanks for your input. I have decided not to build it here in Portland after talking with a manger in one of Portland newest resturant..

I disagree Portland tends to stick with what is clean and has good service. Mcdonalds I think is the best run restaurant in Portland. Close behind is Arbys. Tim at Mcdoanlds does a great job training his employees and you always get good service. I believe the reason Burger King, Taco Bell, and Ponderosa closed down was due to bad service, bad food, and the places were not clean. When a new restaurant opens in Portland its very important for the staff to be trained well. The first impression is very important.

I think anything new is great but looking long term is it wise... I am not sure. With Sonic and the Panther Den... it may not do well after the new wears off.

If you have any questions e mail me @ larry37148@hotmail.com
I'm trying to arrange a package now, and following this closely.
I know we don't need a burger joint and this is the dairy dip style place.

I think it would be great. I think it would be a fun place to go after baseball games or soccer games. The one in Franklin is always busy, and I think one would do well here too!

Larry-
I honestly think it would be a bad idea. We already have a Panther Den in which people are familar. I don't want to burst your bubble, but Portland residents tend to stick with what is comfortable. That's only my opinion. I could be wrong.
