A Testimonial: Sidewalks Are Hard!
Yesterday, as I was walking to Portland City Hall, I fell over this "step" in the sidewalk. Let me tell you, sidewalks are hard and they hurt! Fortunately, I did not break anything -- just a few scrapes and bruises and a sprained wrist which is better today. (Plus I felt really stupid for falling over a step in a sidewalk!)
The picture above is a re-creation of the accident scene which was taken today; I thought it would look interesting on the blog!
As soon as I fell yesterday, a car immediately stopped and two very kind gentlemen asked if I were okay and if I needed help. This is one of the things I like about living in the country -- people helping people. I really appreciate the kindness these gentlemen showed.
When I arrivfed at City Hall, Janice Ferrett saw the blood on my hand and immediately offered Band-Aids. Janice amazes me. In addition to doing her job as City Hall receptionist (which isn't easy), she is virtually running the Chamber of Commerce during the transition period, she is answering about 1,000 questions a day about the Federated Deartment Stores warehouse coming to Portland, and she has the time to help me with my scrapes. Thanks, Janice!
Finally, I want to thank Ricky Blackburn on the Streets Department who has agreed to cover up the step in the sidewalk with some blacktop. Yeah!

Disregard the previous post... I really took the original posting in the wrong context and for that i apologize. It's barely past Noon and it's already been too long of a day for me. Sorry Charlie

Is it the cities fault you can't watch where you're going? Welcome to modern day society; Noone wants to take responsibility for themselves, they find it easier to blame someone else. A good comment for that picture would be "Have you been walking long?"
sad sad sad....

Im sorry Charlie, I hope your wounds heal quickly, I noticed something today that is also very dangerous, does anyone else realize how quickly a train is upon you at the tracks? I was pulling up the hill on the road beside subway, looked up and a train was on the road where the lawnmower shop is and the crosslights werent on nor were any bells ringing, maybe the reason we have so many fatalities by trains should be examined and there should definitely be more of a warning, I as a child was taught to look both ways and Ive taught my children but many just take for granted that the lights and bells will warm them, and with such a short delay time it may be enough of a warning, well thats just my thoughts on the subject , hope everyone has a great weekend :)
