Hurricane Katrina....brings out the worst in people

4920644.jpg

As I watch CNN, all I can do is sit here in horror. One of the worst tradegies in U.S. history has brought out the worst in people. The news gives us a glimpse into the darkness of human nature. If the hurricane and flooding wasn't bad enough, you have people raping, looting, carjacking and shooting. Snipers actually fired on a medi-vac helicopter trying to help people. What kind of person takes advantage of a tradegy? I am truly ashamed to call these people fellow Americans. Its really easy, now that it is over, to cast blame on the government and military, but I challenge all Americans to place blame where it is due.....Hurricane Katrina. It is truly a tradegy and we can only do our part, praying, giving blood, and sending donations, clothes and food to those needing our help. Those that react with violence and crime are dispicable and should be dealt with accordingly . It is a shame for the people that are truly in need, because as you watch the news coverage you feel appalled rather than sympathetic. My thought and prayers are with the true victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Lowe's in Hendersonville is taking donations of clothes and any non-perishable items. My husband took 13 large garbage bags full of clothes, shoes, stuffed animals and baby bottles down there yesterday and they were very happy to receive them. Also here is an email I received yesterday in response to my post.

Hi there,
I don't know of any organizations that are taking clothing, but I DO know that at Coach's Sports Pub (sits under I-65, at Rivergate Parkway) is accepting donations for five different families (I believe all have young children) that were devastated by Katrina...they are without EVERYTHING and are starting over in Nashville. If you take the donation to Coach's, you will see the sign in the front lobby and in the bathroom. One of the waitress's sister's family is one of the families being helped. Your donation will definately make it to a hurricane victim...they are also taking donations for household items.

Hope that helps!
Mary

I am so frustrated. I am trying to find out who in Sumner County is gathering disaster relief for the victims of the hurricaine. I do not have the freedoom to drive to Nashville to make a donation, and all the so-called "relief agencies" only want cash. No clothing, no blankets, no personal items, only cash. Welcome to America, land of the rich and home of the check.

As we have all heard all weekend on TV, there is simply no organization to this mess! Who is in charge? Everyone says the Red Cross, but when I call them, I get a recording.

I get the feeling that Sumner County simply doesn't care, and I know that isn't true. Is there anyone else out there who is trying to help, but can't find a place to do so?

Are any of the churches in Portland taking donations for the Katrina Victims? I haven't heard of any. I have some clothes from baby to adult that I want to donate to the victims. Any info would be appreciated. Please email me at

Thanks

It seems in times of need that the SCAM ARTIST pop up everywhere. You
might receive emails asking for money to send to the Katrina victims,
they might call you on the phone and they might even coming a
knocking on your door. DO NOT fall for these SCAMS.

I know there are decent, GOD fearing people out there that truly want
to help and GOD Bless them for it. But to be sure your money goes to
help those in need you will need to make sure your money gets into
the right hands. Go to this web site and you will get a list of
charties that are helping the victims.

www.networkforgood.org

Just $1.00 will go a long ways to help these people and they need our
help so desperately.

If you have strong feeling about this, please let us hear it and post
to the board at www.groups.yahoo.com/group/sumnercogroupies
