Follow-Up Questions and Maps

Pet Peeve: I really wish the reporters of our three local newspapers would ask a few more follow-up questions from time to time.
Case in point: This morning's News-Examiner had this quote about the Portland Airport, "Our future goal is to extend the runway by 500 feet."
To me, the obvious follow-up question to that statement is, "In which direction do you plan to extend the runway -- north or south?"
If the runway is extended to the north, what happens to Ranch Road? What about the houses on Overlook Court which are technically already too close to the runway?
If the runway is extended to the south, what happens to Parkers Chapel Road? What about the houses along Airport Road?
Another example: a few months ago, the local papers were talking about five or six sites for new schools in Portland. They referred to the sites using names such as "The Old Jones Farm." I seriously doubt if too many people in Portland know where all these sites are.
In this kind of situation, a map would have been most helpful.
Anyway, good follow-up questions and maps from our newspapers would certainly be appreciated!
By the way, does anybody know if they plan to extend the Portland airport to the north or south?

The airport is a wonderful thing for this area. my biggest concern is that the individuals who are running the airport, board city etc, are running it into the ground. It is time for change. Major Change. The problem is it will never happen.

why does portland need an airport in the first place.

I think the airport has a 5000 ft runway now. It is capable of handling corporate jets now. What would be the purpose of extending the runway.
Jets can takeoff and land now.
So I ask, why extend the runway?

If you are concerned with the Airport, why not call or go to the Airport and ask, I am positive your question would be answered in a positive, and friendly manner.

I like the "Parkers Chapel would be dug up" part.
Seems like just last month, the city paid to have that section of Parkers Chapel Road repaved. :-)

I am doing this from memory, and all of these are long range plans, and we know what happens to those in government, so forgive me if this is not absolutely right. Last I heard, the runway was planned to extend to the south. A big part of, if not all, the land south of the airport would be purchased to Airport road. Parkers Chapel would be dug up and it would extend from the curve on Airport Road where you can go slightly right into that subdivision, and meet up with the present road.
The way I understood it, those were the last long-term plans for the airport I heard about. There is a master plan in the budget this year to give us a better look at the long term plans for the airport.
Hope this not only helps, but is correct.
