Weed Problem

weed.JPG

Does anybody know the name of this plant?

Here is what I know about it:

1. It grows beside trails in the woods, beside flower beds, and in flower beds.

2. It grows about 8" tall.

3. It's easy to pull up a single plant, but there are so many plants, it's nearly impossible to get them all.

4. It disappears in the winter but returns in late spring.

5. It seems to be new to this area. I don't remember seeing it for more than three years.

Any help in identifying this weed and any tips on how to get rid of it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks laa!!!

You are correct. It is Japanese Stilt Grass.

Below is another link that shows the areas infested, gives details on how the plant arrived in Tennessee, tells how to control it, etc.

Looks like I'm going to be pulling Japanese Stilt Grass all summer. If only we could get the Japanese Beetles to eat the Japanese Stilt Grass!

I may have found the name of this weed. I believe it is Microstegium vimineum, also known as Japanese Stilt Grass. Here is a link - perhaps this is what you are looking for. It certainly looks very similar.
