Media Coverage Of The War

Media Coverage of the War
CNN and other news agencies portray the war….or do they? Yes, we know the death count, and yes, we’ve seen coverage of the few soldiers abusing the prisoners, and yes we’ve seen pictures of the Muslim extremists that want us out of their country. Does the news ever tell you of the work our troops are doing over there? With U.S. Aid, the Iraqi Water Authority is working on a program to dig 1500 new water wells in Northern Iraq. Thanks to coalition forces, Baghdad will benefit from 35 new or rehabilitated fire stations and new equipment. Before, they even lacked the basic equipment to fight fires. What about the plan to construct 150 new health centers across Iraq, or helping local Parents and Teachers Associations and communities to replace mud and reed schools with proper concrete buildings.
What about William Dieffenbachia’s (of the 4th Battalion, 3rd Air Defense Artillery) effort to get school supplies to the children of Iraq. What about Lance Van Auken (with the 82nd Airborne Division)? Never heard of him either? Of course not! He sent letters home requesting books to give the children of Iraq, which later became “Books for Baghdad”. What about the soldiers requesting stuffed animals to give to the children, or the soldier that is working on a project to provide shoes and sandals to all the Iraqi children. Have you heard of Brian Chontosh, presented with the Navy Cross, the 2nd highest award for combat bravery, the U.S. can bestow? He portrayed extreme bravery, laying his life on the line, saving many of his men, but you will probably never hear of that either. The 127th Military Police Company has spent 10 months at the 19 Iraqi Police Stations, developing and training the Iraqi police. The U.S. military has trained and equipped over 14,500 Iraqi security troops. Repairing pipeline, reconstruction and paving roads, rehabilitating power lines, restoring Baghdad Airport, training doctors and bankers, the list goes on and on. Finally, I’m sure you have all heard about Cindy Sheehan, the mother camped out at Bush’s Texas ranch, who hasn’t. But who has heard of Deborah Johns? She is organizing a large caravan leaving San Francisco, destined for Crawford, Texas in a gesture of support for President Bush, named “You don’t Speak For Me, Cindy”. She said “ If God took my son and called him home, I would continue to stand behind our military men and women, and I would continue to support our President of the United States”. You haven’t heard? Sadly, that is no surprise. The media doesn’t want you to see that. The country has no idea of what our soldiers are truly doing over there, and I think it is about time they knew! What we need is to support them unconditionally and truly appreciate all they do! I do! Do you? "Remember that while many stand behind our flad, our soldiers stand in front".
